Considering the Villa Massalia in Marseille?
A VT member wrote the following comment about visiting Marseille:

Marseille's largest beach - Parc Balneaire du Prado - is some 5 miles from the city and can be easily reached by hiring a velo or public transport. To get there by bike, follow Rue de Rome , using the bus lane until it merges with Avenue du Prado which forks right at Rand Point du Prado. Continue on to the junction with Georges Pompidou avenue. There are a number of beached separated by small rock formations which jut out into the sea. The swimming is safe with life guards along the length of the beach. It's an ideal spot for a bit of swimming or fishing, with spearguns in common use by the locals. When the wind is brisk, the sea offers quite good surfing.
