RE: orly hotel

by FabienneCA

Hello,

Orly Hotel is ok... no problem at all.. good situation etc..

Between Nice and Menton, train is more reliable. and the views are as nice as with the bus for example.
You can also stop by Monaco,Roquebrune -Cap Martin;
The sation for the Orly is Garavan. the last one before Italy.
You'll have to get down the street to the sea front, and walk a bit in direction of Menton old town (you see it anyway)

Travel Tips for Menton

The most charming public toilet in Menton

by hirondelle11

Everybody might know the difficulties of finding a clean public toilet in France, but if you come to Menton, pay a visit to the public toilets at "Napol?on Plage"!!!! It costs you 30 cents and you will experience the most charming lady who runs the public toilets and showers at the beach. I can only speak for the Ladies' Toilet, but it has an aviary with birds, a lot of plastic roses, a huge stuffed toy dog ( the size of a real dog), old things like a radio of the 50s and a lot of other curious things... It is spotlessly clean, the lady will hand you some toilet paper, there is water and soap.... it is truly an experience and nothing in comparison to the usual self-cleaning pay cell where you already wonder when you enter it if you will ever be able to get out of it again.... Try it and you won't be sorry! Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays!

Basilica Saint-Michel

by TRimer

This baroque church dominates the town. The basilica, which is surrounded by sun-drenched roofs, ancient terraced walls and massive doorways and gateways has a pastel-colored facade and overlooks the port and the sea. The bell-tower is covered with vanished roof-tiles.

Inside the church are the tombs of the great families of the town.

From fortress to a museum

by Pavlik_NL

At the harbour stands the old bastion (fortress) that watched over the ships that anchored at Menton. It was built in the 17th century by order of the Grimaldi's (Monaco royal family). Now-a-days however it ha a complete different function as being the museum of Jean Cocteau that also worked here several years after 1957. This architect that is well known for his delicate works that decorate his remarkable buildings, has many chapels, houses and constructions along the Cote d'Azur on his name. The museum shows mozaik- and fence work, sculpturing, paintings, even a gobelin that he made himself. Quite interesting if you like his work.

Palais Carnoles

by NiceLife

The western approaches to Menton feature the Italian Renaissance style Palais Carnoles - probabbly the only attraction of this unlovely suburb of endless holiday apartments.

Once the residence of the Princes of Monaco, the Palace is bordered with majestic Palm-trees from the Canaries Its gardens include the largest Citrus-trees collection in Europe - Lemon , Orange, Mandarin and Pineapple - and modern sculptures

Menton - Eze et la Cote d'Azur

by Chrystalain

We visited a bit of the Cote d'Azur and the littoral. I didn't like the beaches as it is not sand, but people are nice and the weather is great!

Nous avons visité un peu la cote d'Azur et le littoral. Je n'ai pas aimé les places, car ce sont des roches et pas du sable, mais les gens sont gentils et la température superbe!
