Our Top Favourite, just 5mn from Roussillon (Vaucluse) & half an hour from Apt. We love staying there: Camping Arc en Ciel à Roussillon - Vaucluse.

One uniqua quality is the character of this hotel where you can also go and eat. It looks like an old Hollywood hotel for moviestars like Brigitte Bardot and Marylin Monroe and it has a garden with view on the sea.
RESIDENCE LES OLIVIERS : private houses, 3 stars, full equiped.
Located in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, department Bouches du Rhône (13). Unique environment, very kind owner, nice and relaxing place (quiet and bordered by olive trees).
The location of this hotel is perfect for visiting the caves of the Grotte-de-Font-de-Gaume. The "city" of Les Eyzies is nothing impressive ~ it's actually just a single main street ~ but it is very convenient.
The hotel is clean, comfortable and quiet. Very good value for money.
FF 375-475 depending on season, including breakfast A wonderful location with grand views and a private pool. Herman & Susan Jenny are proprietors and are very nice, thoughtful people (she's American native, he's Swiss). Dinners were just outstanding and a real bargain at $25 or so per person including wine! This is a great base to use to see this part of France.
LES SOURCES En Cévennes - Camping Caravaning ***
see website for more information A friendly, family campsite, in an attractive, peaceful, and shady site, not far from the Mediterranean in the heart of the Cevennes, 40 miles north of Nîmes, 50 miles from Avignon, 47 miles from Montpellier, 25 miles from Uzès, 17 miles from Alès, and 60 miles from the Camargue and the Mediterranean coast. The swimming pool and children's paddling pool are free for campers.
Its the only real hostel and cheap accomodation here. Not cheap for a hostel high season I think is like 30 -40 euros but if you are here for a couple of days it beats paying 100 euros like other placeas charge. Its clean and friendly.
To stay in one of the new 'Canadian' type chalets the cost for 1 week in the summer is around 2150F (£215). The is a 3* campsite on the edge of a 140 hectare lake. The campsite is suitable for families and teenagers. The site has an open air swimming pool, tennis courts, mini golf, horse riding, water sports and fishing. The site has 18 chalets/caravans which can be hired out all year round. You can also take your own caravan and hire a pitch.

Hello
I believe this is the right forum for the area of France. I would like to go the week commencing 17 December on a skiing holiday. What is the snow like at this time of year, has anyone experienced it. We want to go in a Chalet that it catered to keep the costs down are there any recommendations? Which airport is best to fly to, want the shortest tansfer possible. Which village should I choose, I think Les Arcs 2000 but what do people think. Thanks.
Jane
hey jane,
well according to me december is not the best period to get good snow conditions nevertheless it is different every years. Les arcs is one of the best place to ski. If you want more infos you can check this good website which has a version in english : www.lesarcs.com. Have fun!!!
Sorry but skiing in les Arcs in Provence looks difficult, snow is not very frequent in this town...I think its better for you if you go in les Arcs in "Savoie" in Rhone Alpes...
Will be arriving in Nice soon for 3 weeks; living in Juan les Pins; will have a car at the airport. I've been getting so much good information here. We want to spend a couple of nights in Aix to visit that part of Provence.I would appreciate any suggestions of Must See during our stay. It's our first trip to France but really hoping to return.I love to visit villages instead of the big city. Hoping the weather warms up but anything is better than here - 20 with all the snow.
Thank you.
Well you have to see Nice, thats a given. Juan le Pins doesn't have a lot to offer - its a basic seaside resort.
If you are into villages then your list should include St Paul de Vence, Vence itself, and Eze. Each of these is worth a half day.
The best I can suggest is the medieval undiscovered gem of Haut de Cagnes. I have pages on it that give you a fuller account of why.
Enjoy your stay,
Cheers
Thank you so much for answering; I will be spending all my time printing out your wonderful description of La Côte d'Azur. Our travel agent suggested Juan les Pins back in August and now we are stuck with it but we have a car and plan to visit all we can.You will be our guide; thanks again!
