More about Four Points By Sheraton Elysee Palace

Not worth the money paid, probably best to look elsewhere

by TripAdvisor Member Fugazi

My wife and I stayed at this hotel, and though there were no real problems, there were a few niggly things that spoilt the stay slightly. During the 5 days we were at the hotel, 1 of the 2 lifts was out of order for the whole time. The room is very dark and gloomy, with no natural light entering. I asked reception, without any luck, for a price list for the mini-bar, and was told to just use what I wanted from it as though it was all free.

On the plus side, reception was very friendly, the room was cleaned daily.

If staying in this area again, we would look elsewhere to stay, somewhere cheaper and nearer to where the action is, such as nearer the old town.

We stayed here in early January and this meant that we got a very good rate on the internet for this 4 star hotel but it did have the disadvantage that the roof top pool (much liked by your other correspondents) was closed (I believe that it is only open May to September). It had another disadvantge: for three of the four nignts that we were here the hotel had very few guests and as well as detracting from the atmosphere this may account for some of the flaws noted below. Our room was medium sized and comfortable but the shower water was barely warm. The breakfast spread was fine but the 'hot'offerings were lukewarm and the coffee was awful. The ground floor lobby was spacious but some of the common areas were gloomy. The hotel was located just off the Promenade des Anglais and although it was some way from the centre of town the walk was a pleasant one. The staff were helpful and courteous. I would consider staying here again but the decision would very much depend on the rate that I could get. We didn't try the restaurant because the menu wasn't very exciting and it didn't have many customers.

paid extra for a sea view room which we would have got if we had necks like giraffes, booking in was not easy. the rooms were average at the most althought he food was nice if overpriced.

our recent stay at the above, was very welcoming with english speaking staff who were most helpful. basement garage was used to full advantage as was room service, this hotel ticked all the right boxes. the interior designer deserves a pat on the back for this one.

Not really worth the money

When we were in France, the hotel in Nice was our splurge and let me tell you, many of the backwater inns that we stayed in while in the Dordogne were much better. It was certainly a well maintained and clean hotel, but as mentioned in many of the other reviews, the rooms were dark and there was a lot of street noise in our room. There were three of us and I was sleeping on a very uncomfortable pull out couch. The breakfast was alright, but I'd reccommend going to a boulangerie instead; you could almost certainly get better quality bread and pasteries cheaper. The location is good, you can definitely get to the main drag by the beach simply enough. However, I'm sure there are many other more deserving hotels in the same area.

Go to Nice but don't stay here!

We stayed here for 3 nights in Oct-05. We loved Nice to bits and would definately go back but were very disapponited with the hotel. We stayed in a junior suite which was very spacious but like the rest of the hotel was in serious need of refurbishment. The dcor in the room was truly awful - like something out of a 1980's horror movie - the whole room was some knid of sick-green colour with pink and green striped curtains and duvet to match - everything was about 20 years old and you could tell. Similarly the recption area in the hotel was outdated and in need of some work. We chose not to have breakfast in the hotel and were very glad tht we did so - much better to go to the bakers around the corner and get a €1 pastry and sit and eat it on the promenade!! The hotel is in a good location on the sea front though as its set back and at an agle to the road you dont get any good views from the rooms. The hotel is also at the far end of the promenade to Nice old town (about 20 mins walk) which may be a bit much for some people though we didnt mind. The one thing we really enjoyed about the hotel was the roof-top pool - we were lucky enough to stay in october when the resort was quiet but hte weather great and we had the pool to ourselves each day!! My recommendation: Go to Nice right now but don't stay here!

Clean, Friendly, affordable

Our recent stay to Nice, France included staying at the Sheraton Elysee Palace. The place was more modern in appearance than you would expect from this area. It is very clean, the people were very friendly and more than helpful. However, we arrived early and had to store our luggage for several hours, they don't have a safe to keep anything of value in their lobby, they did put it in an envelope, staple & taped it shut. When we returned to check-in it was with them and intact. The rooms do have a safe. The bar & pool closed early, and the pool isn't open on Saturday. We made this trip in June 2006.

Sheraton Elysee Palace?

by debspencer

Has anyone stayed at this hotel? We've booked to stay, but having read some reviews(quite dated) we're now a little anxious. Has anyone anything nice to say?

Four Points Sheraton Elysee Palace Nice

Some good friends stayed here a few months back and thought it really excellent. The rooftop has a terrace and pool which is a great bonus, as it looks out in all four directions. The drinks on the terrace were pricey but you expect that in a upmarket chain like Sheraton. The location is "convenient" but not exactly central - you end up with a fairly stiff walk to get to the pleasures of the Cours Saleya and Old Nice.. They are a frequent partner hotel for Air Miles and its a good standard and modern rather than belle epoche classic.
