Bus travel from Nice to Genova (Italy)
by planedust
I will be arriving in Nice by train from Avignon on the 12th June 2010 for 7 days. Could anyone please provide me with information on bus travel between Nice & Genova (Italy) for the 19th June 2010. Information such as times of departure from Nice and arrival time in Genova, cost, and is it possible to pre purchase reserved seats from Australia. I will be leaving Australia in 3 weeks and would like to have this finalised before I leave.
Any information and assistance you can provide would be much appreciated.

Eurolines has a daily bus (the only one I know of)at 0400 arriving in Genoa at 0600 for 42 Euros.
www.eurolines.com and there would seem to be no reason why you can't reserve a ticket from Australia.
It may be possible to do the journey by road via the border at Ventimigila. I am pretty certain there isn't a bus all the way from Nice to the border and I don't know the bus operations on the Italian side.
It's a fairly straightforward but slower journey by train. You have to change trains at the border town of Ventimiglia but there are several trains each day and you don't have to reserve on most of them.
Timetables: Nice - Ventimigila at http://www.ter-sncf.com/Images/Paca/Tridion/FH06-Marseille-Ventimiglia_tcm27-29977.pdf

I hope that helps.

If you take the train mentioned above, the ticket is just EUR 22.60, but the trip takes between 3 and 4 hours, depending on how much you have to wait for the connection in Ventimiglia.
Travel Tips for Nice
Beach Therapy

Walking on the Promenade at night in my new 15 - but -looks- like 100 - Euro dress, taking off my flip flops walking on the edge of the water. Lying on the stony beach tanning and laying warm rocks on my hands...kind of like a spa, but free! Also walking the side streets right before the siesta looking for a cheap pair of sandals to buy, just so I could say I got them in Nice.

JL Martinetti is THE photographer of Nice. His awe-inspiring photo's really capture the colours of the Mediterranean and the style that makes Nice so uplifting. Framed or unframed, small and large, they come no better than this. His shop is in the centre of Vieux Nice, and stocks a huge selection in poster or postcard form.

The only way to get to know...
by slaybelle
The only way to get to know the real Nice is by strolling through the ochre colored streets listening to the 'Niçois' speaking their own language (Nissart) and by tasting their savory cooking, One musn't miss the onion, anchovy and olive tarts called Pissaladières, the vegetable and tuna sandwiches known as Pan Bagnat, the Salade Niçoise or the famous Ratatouille (tomatoes eggplant and zucchini squash stew). The main cooking ingredient is olive oil ot course, and many of the dishes are garnished with the succulent little black Nice olives called Caillettes.

Go to the cinema...in English!
by Nice2004
Had enough of the sun and sea, tired of the museums and days trips from Nice? Then why not visit the cinema!
Here in Nice there are 2 cinemas which regularly show "Version Originale" films. That is films in the language in which they were originally made with french subtitles, rather than being dubbed. The 2 cinemas are The Rialto 50 metres behind the Negresco on Rue Rivoli and The Mercury at 16 Place Garibaldi.
Perched village of Eze
by NiceLife
A short bus excursion from Nice ( routes 82 or 112 from Nice Gare Routiere) high up the hills is the village of Eze, probably the most accessible of the so called "perched villages"
It features an interesting maze of narrow medieval streets and alleys, artists ateliers, tourist gift shops, and a large mediterranean cactus and tropical plant garden at the summit (charges) from which the view up the coast is astounding. Eze Village boasts two very luxe five star hotels - Château Eza and Le Chevre d'Or. The village is popular with coach excursions from cruise-boats that stop in Villefranche, Monaco and even Cannes, so don't expect to have it all to yourself.
The daily flow of tourists has attracted the two major perfume houses - Gallimard and Fragonard, who manufacture scents for all the top marques - to set up retail outlets at Eze.
The philosopher Nietchze apparently came here to think great thoughts, and there is a long and winding footpath attributed to him which leads down to the sea at Eze bord de Mer, which is also home to the large beachfront villa Eze les Roses owned by Bono, frontman of the Irish band U2. Don't be tempted by the signpost - if you are thinking to walk from the sea up to Eze the Sentier Nietchze a gruelling uphill hour and a half, and not for the faint-hearted. The reward is some fantastic views en route.
