Nice Airport Transportation

by bora

I will be planing to arrive to Nice at 26th midnight. Will the public transportation be available during that time for me to get to Nice center from the airport? I believe that taxi would cost around 30 Euros so any other way is appreciated?

Depends on what your plans are in general.

If you spend the rest of your life there, can well stay at the airport until morning and pick up the first bus at 5 or 5.30.
Or walk, as NiceLife would suggest.

The taxi was over 30 the last time I made such a fool of myself, and the driver was not too welcoming.

I've found a night bus service (N4) from the airport to central Nice. It runs every 60 minutes on weekdays and every 30 minutes on weekends until 1:51. A single trip costs 1 euro.

According to the airport's website, the stop at the airport is called "Lindbergh", in front of Terminal 1, at the Novotel Hotel.

When you have as near perfect climate, culture and life, what do you do? You pretend you are 3,000 miles away somewhere else, and wish you were Brazilian.

The Brazil thing has captured the imagination of Med -youth like nothing else. The near Orient is too threatening, Africa is fine but you are not black, but hey Brazil is cool and its not French.

Here on Sunday morning down the Prom the French chapter of sports /fitness/ chanting/ HareKrishna-in-white/ fight-dancing club go through a group work-out.

Some of the back-flips are truly awesome and done well its really impressive. I'd try it myself but I don't have the number of the nearest Trauma and Orthopaedic centre to hand.

A circular trip from Nice, on a budget, part 2...

Eze Village - Eze Bord de Mer

continued from part 1

...Picnic was good; we were eyed somewhat enviously by other visitors, especially when I got the thermos flask out - a great British institution! The sun shone and we could have basked here all day. Entrance to the gardens is 3 euros each but free for children, small price to pay for uninterrupted views and a good picnic spec. The gardens themselves are neat and terraced, mostly cacti and succulents. According to my guide book, a 'must see' is the 14th century Chapel of the Penitents - not the large blue and yellow church dominating the view (tip - loos by the entrance to this church) but a tiny cream building.

To complete the circular tour, return to the gates (see part 1) and walk down the marked path - Sentier Frederic Nietzsche, named after the German philosopher used this pathway in the 1880s. The path is clearly signposted with yellow 'flashes' painted at intervals in case you wander off. It is steep in parts and steps, when present, are quite deep. The estimated time is 45 minutes down to Eze Bord de Mer. It is a pleasant walk but I wouldn't like to do it in the heat of summer. Several gasping groups passed us on the way up! We felt we had made the better decision, to start at the top and walk down!

When you reach the bottom you are in Eze Bord de Mer. Cross over to the beach or do as we did, turn right and walk a few metres up to the bus stop to catch the number 100 (every half hour) for Nice. If you walk past the bus stop, there is a road side cafe for a recuperative ice-cream while you wait for the bus.

This bus route uses the lower (Basse) Corniche road to return to Nice passing through Beaulieu and Villefranche before dropping us off at the Port.

The bus fare is 2,50 euros each per trip, the garden entrance fee was 6 euros, plus a picnic made for a cheap afternoon out with a lovely village to explore, a good walk to work off lunch and two scenic bus journeys. Most enjoyable.

Villa Hanbury and gardens, French Italian borders

by NiceLife

Located just across the Italian border - accessible by Line 101 local bus service from Ventimiglia (Train Nice Ville - Ventimiglia) is the most spectacular botanical gardens in all Europe, La Mortola.

Getting here requires careful planning - see travel pages - but is unquestionable rewarding tenfold return on effort. Be sure to chose a fine day - that azur blue sky is an essential part of the experience.
