is it best to stay in NICE and then travel by train/car as day trips to monte-carlo, cannes and st.tropez??

Hello,
I live in north of France, my sister live in Nice. I was there last week.
From Nice there's a lot of bus to travel arround you can see the map: http://www.lignedazur.com/ftp/FR_plan/Nice%20CANCA.pdf each travel is 1€.

If you like old village, eze is a beautiful place to visit.

But you have to take train to go to cannes and monte carlo( 30 min)

But to go to st tropez there's no train or bus direct.

If i can help you...

In Nice France, you have the ocean, big city, rural mountainous areas above the city, and are at the headway to the Cote d'Azur for South of France. Using Nice as your South of France gateway, you can hit every town down to Cannes within hours. Being in the mountains above the city looking down. Getting lost up there, and having to ask some French Farmers how to get back down to the city, by foot.
They directed me to an ancient foot path down the side of a mountain, which eventually led back to the edge of Nice.
It was an excellent adventure.

Shopping

Large shops are usually open from Monday to Saturdays from 10 AM to about 7h30 PM and do not close at lunchtime (Galeries Lafayette opens from 9 AM to 8 PM , Virgin Megastore from 9h30 AM to 8 PM and Fnac from 10 AM to 8 PM. Nice Etoile mall from 10 AM to 7h30 PM) .

Supermarkets open around 8h30 AM, (smaller mini-markets closes between 1 PM-3 PM) and close around 8 PM.

Some small shops closes on Mondays.

Most shops and supermarkets close all day Sunday, but you might find a few around the "Zone Piétonne (Rue Masséna)" and Vieux-Nice (old town).

Best shopping streets:

- Avenue Jean Medécin: H& M, Etam, Levi's, Armand Thierry, Marionnaud Parfumerie, Monoprix, Shopping mall Nice Etoile, Zara, Virgin Megastore, Sephora Parfumerie, Galeries Lafayette, etc.

- Avenue de Verdun: designer shops, such as Hermès, Cartier, etc.
- Rue de la Liberté: Ikks, Guess, Jacadi, Elena Miro

The surface temperature of the water along the Côte d'Azur differs depending on the amount of sunshine it receives. In winter it can be from 16C and in summer to 22C. If your are diving however, the temperature is a constant 13C from below 2000 metres down to 4000 metres. Toplessness on most beaches is accepted in the south of France but be sure to wear plenty of sunscreen.

when you're in the town cemetery, of course. I thought this one, for a little 8yr-old-boy from 1931, was the most precious and touching. The stone toys, his car and his airplane, were such thoughtful notes. And the list goes on. Here on the sunny coast of Paradise itself, you are brought back to earth just like that.
