Boscolo Park a Delightful Hotel
by A TripAdvisor Member
My wife and I stayed at the Boscolo Park in June, 2004, and could not have enjoyed the hotel more. We booked a superior room which was very spacious: two separate full-size beds, roomy bath with tub and bidet, and twin balconies with a breathtaking view of the Park and the Mediterranean. In comparison to the Meridien just over a block, the Boscolo was a much better value (at least 30 EUR less expensive), and a greater percentage of the rooms had a better view. The Breakfast buffet was delightful and also reasonably priced. Parking is available fairly convenient. The Boscolo's location is in an ideal section of Nice, very close to all the restaurants, shops, and sightseeing. Unreservedly recommended.
Seen Better Days

I too found that this hotel was not the "Luxury" hotel I was expecting. We were on our honeymoon and to give the hotel their due they did upgrade us to a suite but the first one they showed us was awful. It had a bright green carpet that reminded me of a putting green! The view was great but the decor so bad I asked to move. We were moved to room 201 which was better decor wise although it was really jaded round the edges. It was a big room and it had everything we needed but I would describe it as basic and not luxury. In contrast we stayed in the Hotel Columbus in Monte Carlo which was a bit more expensive (an extra 80 Euro's) but was a world apart. Contempory Decor and a real luxury feel. I'm not sure if I'd stay at Boscolo Park again - perhaps if I found a really good deal as the location is great - just don't expect any frills.
Beyond Disappointing !!!

My wife and two kids recently returned from a trip to Nice, France July 31st - August 7th, 2004. I must say that the Boscolo Hotel Park (BHP) is no more than a three-star lobby and a NO-star room facility.
First they tried to scam us into expanding our already prepaid room package by insisting on the need for extra/larger room for our twin children (aged 3). The rooms were old, badly kept, with bathroom looking questionable to say the least. In fairness this might have had its hay days when it did qualify for its purported four-star status something in the past. But beyond the lobby nothing else convinces me of such claim.
Secondly there is NO Air-Conditioner, Do not be fooled !!!!. Case in point, after much complaints and request for a change in the horrid conditions, it rained. This was the evening of Monday August 2, 2004 ushering in an unbearable humid heat wave, note we were occupying the top floor unit (6th floor room facing the beach) and knowing that heat rises, we found ourselves trapped in this oven-like inferno. I had wrongly assumed that since the weekend was past us and with all the European weekend holiday troopers gone, that the hotel management would finally out of courtesy make the necessary effort to get us a better room (i.e. cleaner, cooler etc), but I was wrong. But they otherwise insisted on us staying another night and claiming that absolutely nothing else could be done. By 10PM, it had just about had it, it didn’t make any sense to fry at the Boscolo Hotel Park (BHP). My kids were tossing and turning and were struggling to get any sleep and so as a parent I just had it and proceeded to get outside contact via Internet or telephone to which request the hotel declined. I was forced to go to use my GSM rented line to make an international call to our US travel agent for alternative options. Thanks to relatives and their conference calling assistances, we finally got connected and were given the help we needed. At around midnight exactly we ended up getting a cab and relocated to another hotel in order to salvage the Nice vacation experience which Boscolo Hotel Park would have completely destroyed.
We ended up going to the Hotel Massena on 58 rue Gioffredo, which in contrast to the BHP, understood what service entailed, which is simply listening and considering others in particular paying customers.
The rooms were way clean compared to the BHP and they had real Air conditioning. Yes, they had just had the room we stayed in renovated, so for those considering this hotel, make sure you request for the renovated rooms. The lobby had Internet access (free I might add) for contact with the outside world. They also had a reasonably priced breakfast buffet etc. But more importantly they took care in listening, when we had a minor child accident we were surrounded with service similar to what is expected of hotel hosts, they even spoke English to us when we hit vocabulary limits in French. Thanks to them we saved our trip.
These are just some frank comments on the nightmare experience at the Boscolo Hotel Park for whoever is considering to go there for a stay, please beware!!!. Again, these were our own experiences, and maybe others have had pleasant times at the BHP, but I must say that the other guests we met while at the BHP expressed similar frustrations and disappointments. They must have a reason for retaining the four star status proudly pasted at the entrance of the hotel facility, we certainly didn’t see any reason for it.
ideal location

Just got to add to the previous reviews that overall the hotel does not merit a 4* rating, as it is disappointingly average. Our Room was small, however it was clean, had air conditioning ( although it also did break for the night of 2/8/04)and was cleaned to a high standard daily. The bathroom seemed to be recently renovated and was spotless, with all of the usual products that would be expected of a hotel. The staff were very helpful and always courteous. The location is the big seller, as it is ideal. As previously stated, the beach is 1 minute away, and the old & new towns are within a very easy walking distance.
Overall it is probably worth 3*, but there will be cheaper 3* in town.
Very Disappointed!

I should have listened to the other postings on this site. This hotel looks nice in the pictures, but trust me, it's very date. The rooms are large for French standards, but I'd rather a smaller room with more updated features. The lobby looks nice, but the rooms are old, dusty and not someplace I'd ever stay again. Go around the corner to Le Grimaldi!!!!
Better than expected

Having read the reviews below, I wasn't too hopeful of what I would find. However on arrival it was clear the location was first class, a stones throw from the aqua Mediterranean sea. I took advice from a previous review and asked to see the room before I registered with the hotel. Good job as the room allocated was small and had views over the bins. Immediately I spoke with the gentlemen who accompanied me to the room and explained I needed a sea view and a bigger room. Upgraded for 35 Euros a night extra and was delighted. Room was clean and fairly large but the view was spectacular. The staff were great and overall I would go back if I got a good deal. We did have air conditioning also. However this hotel is clearly not 4 star of UK standards, a 3 star maybe.
clean rooms, great location, decent price

As I read other people's postings, I wonder if we are talking about the same hotel! Our room was very large, with provencial fabric, TV, upgraded without even asking and even though we booked through online broker for a discount rate. The bathroom was more modern than not, with two sinks, marble counter and a bidet. The location is the best part of the hotel. It's perfect-the only thing between you and the beach is a very small park with tall gorgeous palm trees-it just adds to the view! There is even a bus stop just outside that runs directly to the airport.
We would definitely return!

Not glamorous but everything you need

The reviews on this hotel are mixed. However, I just came back from Nice- stayed at the hotel for 3 nights, and I think its a good hotel with a perfect location.
The best thing is, as I say, the location. It is 100 m from the promenade, near the old town, practically next to the shopping area (with Louis Vuitton a few doors away and Galaries Lafayette about 200 m). It overlooks a park and is behind the Casino Ruhl.
The lobby is beautiful and classy. The service is excellent and the staff helpful. It took us about 1 minute to check in while the porter took our suitcases to the room etc. The room is large with all the amenities (including a safe which I appreciate). Our room was a standard and had two balconies and 2 huge floor to ceiling windows. The room's decor is, however, not of the same standard as the foyer etc., but it has a tv, cupboard, hairdryer, stationary etc (all the usual). We did not have a sea view (I think only the top floor has one with the suites etc.), but our room was in the front overlooking the park.
We booked a package through LastMinute which was a great deal- flights from London plus 3 nights in this hotel for a £400 for 2 people (November).
I would recommend the hotel- if you can afford it, take a premier room. But the standard is fine if you are on a budget. But dont expect the Ritz!
