Try to speak French if you can. In Paris, they might make fun of your Louisiana Cajun accent, but not so much in Nice. It will get you better and more prompt service in restaurants, for example. The French hold politeness at a high premium. So, use please (s'il vous plait) and thank you (merci) a lot.
