Consider also the VAR province area which is basically between Toulon and Frejus / St Raphael. West of Nice. Transport connections can be researched depending where you can fly to. There are Ryanair flights for exmaple to Toulon-Hyeres from Stansted and Bristol. Or from Dublin to Marseille.

Travel Tips for Nice

There are great larger shops...

by Pomska

There are great larger shops aroun the French Riviera. Hypermarkets can be
found on the outskirts of every sizeable town. Among the largest are Casino,
Auchan and Carrefour. Department stores such as Monoprix and Prisunic are
usually found in town centres.
There are great speciality shops in Riviera f.ex. the bread shop (boulangerie)
is usually combined with the patisserie selling cakes and pastries. </

Trompe l'oeil paintings

by Elainehead

I still remember the first time I saw one trompe l'oeil painting. No, it wasn't in Nice. It was actually in SoHo (I believe), in New York city.
In Nice, I have mostly seen those paintings while on the traffic jam on "la Voie Rapide" (the fast lane) aka "Voie Pierre Mathis" ("fast" lane from the airport to the city centre), but there are others around the town.
I have spotted some in Cimiez. And the last one (see picture) was always there (place Franklin) and I have never noticed before because it looked so real! If you haven't spotted them on my pic, the painting windows are the ones on the extremities.

more free brochures...

by allaboutnice

I have found another website about Nice that will send out free brochures on museums, hotels, restaurants etc to your home.

I have ordered some so I will let you know if and when anything turns up! They came today, so less than a week.

Click here to go straight to the form. You can find this website and other links to sites about Nice on the Practical Guide page in my own website about Nice.

Between Cannes and Nice you...

by MVMT

Between Cannes and Nice you will find another heaven on earth… Villefranche sur mer…(speechless) It is so incredible how it rises like an amphitheatre from the sea, and everything from the “Rue Obscure”, to the Saint Pierre Chapel, decorated by Cocteau, makes you feel that although all the expansion around the area, they were able to succeed in preserving the charming character of an old fishing village
Least, but not last…I went to St. Jean Cap Ferrat.
I stayed at La Voile d’Or Hotel (“une joue contre la mer” as Cocteau used to say), where I had the best of times… I fell in love with this refuge, the view, the marina, everything…

Books in English

by NiceLife about The Cats Whiskers English bookshop

If you have finished all those airport-purchased potboilers, bodice-rippers, and celebrity magazines and are still hankering for something new to read, Nice has its very own English bookshop in Rue Lamartine, which runs parallel to the Avenue Jean Medicin opposite side to the railway station. They are something of a community resource centre for things English, if you are exhausted by struggling with all things French. Books?
