Getting to Monaco gran Prix

by nigelselby

I am booked in Rue Paradis, Nice for 7 nights in May the main purpose of the trip is to go to the Monaco Gran Prix. Is there a reasonably priced car park nearby my hotel? I will go to Monaco for at least three days, are there regular trains, how late do they stop, can I pre book tickets possibly in UK before I go(guess the ticket office will be busy),any other helpful suggestions please? Thanks.

You certainly don't need to prebook train tickets from Nice to Monaco. The trains run about every twenty minutes and take twenty minutes to get there. If the lines are too long at the ticket box, you can always use a ticket machine. Don't forget to validate your ticket in the yellow box before you go on to the platform. Can't help youi with the car situation. We had a car one time when I was in Nice and it was very difficult to find parking then, but we probably weren't looking in the right places.

Train timetable at

http://www.ter-sncf.com/Images/Paca/Tridion/FH04-Mandelieu-Grasse-Ventimiglia_v2_tcm27-31486.pdf

Trains every 20/30 minutes as stated above.

The last train back from Monaco to Nice is at 2358.

These are local commuter trains so there is no pre-booking.

Note that there are three stations in Nice. Rue Paradis is about a mile from Nice Ville, the main station.

Sorry cannot help with parking either - I don't drive! A view on Google Earth doesn't show any obvious car parks not even an entrance to an underground one.

Vieux Nice

Le Vieux Ville
It is a section of Nice with old streets but now filled with charming cafes, restaurants, ice cream parlors and bars. It is enjoyable to just walk along the street, watch the walkers or just enjoy a coffee.

Sunbathing

In the South of France, you will see a lot of beaches. Depending on where you come from, you might be shocked to see women sunbathing and showing their naked breasts. It is very common...

Sorry, no picture to illustrate this ;-)

A circular trip from Nice, on a budget, part 1...

by allaboutnice

...to Eze Village and Eze Bord de Mer in the same afternoon. This is a great trip out from Nice and easy to do on public transport. Eze Village is not really 'off the beaten path' - more a well-trod tourist hot spot but still pretty.

Eze Village is a tiny perched village 400 metres above sea level not to be confused with Eze Bord de Mer by the sea.

Following our expensive meal out on Friday, we were on an economy drive today. In the morning I bought provisions for a picnic from our wonderful local patisserie, M. Martinez on rue Cassini, by the Port.

There are only 3 buses to Eze Village on a Sunday and, laden with picnic, we caught the 112 leaving the Gare Routiere at 12 noon, from Place Garibaldi. It's about a 20 minute ride climbing eastwards and upwards on the middle (Moyenne) Corniche.

The bus can not go into the walled and pedestrianised Eze Village with its narrow mediaeval roads, so you are decanted onto a car park. Head up the road but nip right to get a free map and guide from the friendly tourist office and use loo. Continue back up to the village. Just before you pass the walls, you will see the huge wrought iron gates of Chateau Eza - Easter lunch today only 160 euros per person! The path home is to the left of these gates. (This was a circular trip out remember)

Wend your way through the village and explore and marvel at all its photogenic nooks, crannies, chapels and touristy shops. If you are broke, treat it all like an attractive (free!) open air museum. It IS very pretty - it would be hard to take a duff photo here unless a coach load of tourists got in the shot. There are a few places to eat, drink have an ice cream or coffee, that are not too expensive plus another pricy-looking place - La Chevre d'Or - Easter lunch here is 160 euros per person too. We were starting to feel hungry! At the highest point of the village, is the Exotic Garden, le Jardin Exotique. You can picnic here, there's plenty of space at the top, the views are wonderful - complete panorama. continued in Part 2...

Parc Naturel du Vinaigrier

by NiceLife

For anyone with a taste for magnificent panoramic views of the Riviera accessible from Nice, some of the finest are from the Parc Naturel du Vinaigrier. This large forested area offers tantilising glimpses over the full sweep of Nice to beyond the airport and towards the Villefranche - Cap Ferrat peninsula to the otherside. It looks over Mont Boron and the Chateau far below.

The Chemin du Vinaigrier circles the forest and parc and is served by the 54 bus on weekdays due to a school located there. The 54 can be picked up from Mont Boron, served by the number 14 bus from Place Massena. This area gives access to Mont Gross and the Observatoire du Nice

Vinaigrier also plays host to its most famous resident - Tina Turner - whose Villa Anna Fleur is perched on the Villefranche side of the mountain, in the gated private community of Le Castalet.
