Place to stay!!!

by RussoBH

Well, just bought my plane tickets and now finishing booking my Europe trip for May....any suggestions of places to stay or the best neighbourhood to stay on a budget?
Just a place that I can leave my stuff while I spend the day walking and touring......preferably close to the sights......while looking at the net I found these one.....does anyone know anything about it?

Thanks once again,
Leo

Have you READ ANY of the travelpages in here and the tips that members leave?

Re: Place to stay!!!

by RussoBH

Yep...pretty much all the pages! That's why I didnt ask for a place to stay only, but asked if its really good!
And I looked on tripadivsor and hostels.com reviews as well....but I prefer the opinions over here!

Cheers

Anyone who prefers VT to Tripadvisor opinion can't be all bad.Unfortunately some of us are in both places.

Your Villa Ex-whatever should be ex. You couldn't get further away from the sights and action of Nice unless you decided to sleepover in Paris instead. The best located youth hostel (you are still a youth, yes?) is Les Camelias just around the corner from Nice Etoiles - Les Camélias 3, rue Spitalieri .

There are plenty of two star hotels in Nice, take your pick. Nothing fancy but we have had friends stay at the Crillon 44 Pastorelli. Round 50 euro a night and bang in the centre - somewhere to sleep and nothing fancy - as you are not paying for fancy. There are 1-stars for less but you will probably have to "share a bed"

Thank you very much NiceLife....great tip!!!!!
I'll check other hotels as well....but I just need a simple place to rest at night...too many things to do during the day and night!

Cheers

Travel Tips for Nice

Spend a day on the beach!

by 0yvind

Even though the beach in Nice is not sand, but pebles it's a great place to spend a day, sunbathing or swimming. Just relax and enjoy the surroundings and a lot of people in their swimmingtrunks and bikinis....

Twelve noon - its "boom" time!

by NiceLife

On the dot of twelve noon each day, a canon shot sounds over central Nice. Look up to the sky and you will catch the puff of smoke from the explosive arial charge.

It is the canon of Sir Thomas Coventry, a colonel of the British army , who in 1860 asked the municipality of Nice to fire a cannonball everyday at noon, to remind his forgetful wife that it was time to serve his lunch. He committed to supplying all the ammunition and the canon, which was installed in the castle, at 92 meters in height, so that it could be heard by all the citizens of the city.

Hear the sound of the canon at twelve sharp and note, along with 300,000 Nicois, that it is time to go find a little restaurant to sit, eat and chat for the next two hours.

The Museum of Archeology ...

by AndreasK

The Museum of Archeology exhibits ancient pottery, jewelry and sculptures. Like the two described museums above, this one is also located at Cimiez. Cimiez also includes a large park and the Franciscan Museum and Monastery. In August, this is the site of the Nice Jazz Festival, with music until in the olive groves and the Roman Amphitheater.

St. Paul-de-Vence a beautiful, picturesque town

by maippi

This beautiful medieval fortified willage is situated on a narrow spur between two deep valleys. It's located only about 12 km west of Nice and the airport.

Visit some of the artists' and craft workshops or museums or go shopping in the provençal boutiques.

Lose yourself in the maze of charming streets, the floral exuberance of the gardens, the little shady squares, ancient fountains, gateways and porches, or wonderful windows and you'll see why St Paul is a favourite subject for photographers.

...Three hours here just wasn't enough...

St Tropez

by NiceLife

However much every town tries, no-one acheives the celebrity magnet pull of St Tropez.

Hang around the harbour-front cafes, lurk around Hotel Le Byblos, if you can stay overnight the clubs are chocka with stars, everything around you screams glamour.

Hard to get to, exclusive, truly glamorous and ferociously expensive, a day in St Tropez is yours for the princely sum of 50-odd euros return and an early start from Nice Port. But make sure you book in advance, and arrive a half hour earlier than you are told if you want a good seat on the two and a half hour boat ride to St Tropez.

Travel sickness pills are recommended if you don't do boats. This is no wallflower cruise liner, it zips along at great speed and bounces over the crest of waves.

The only other convenient way to access St Tropez from Nice is a train to St Raphael, and switch to the fairly frequent local boat services from the harbour to St Tropez.

(I know what youre thinking: why not just hire a car and drive there? Well in season, if you want to spend six hours in one long traffic jam, this is your big chance. Everybody who has tried that has come away with the words "Never again!" on their lips.)
