Nice to Genova or Varazze
by Specsaver
We are flying into Nice in August. We are 2 adults, 14 year old, 3 year old and 21 month old. We want to travel to Varazze in Italy.
Is the train or the bus the best option. Do we have to change trains. How long is the trip, how much etc. Any other advise you might think helpful is much appreciated.
P.S. Is there a restriction on luggage - as well as our bags we will have 2 x car seats for our later journey in Italy

Basically the restrictions for luggage on trains are "carry on only" with carry on defined as "anything you can carry".
So as long as you are able to get it on and off the trains yourself there is no problem.
The trains is probably going to be the best option, and the best place to find out about train times is (as almost always) the German Railways' website, which has the schedules for most of Europe. See www.bahn.de.
The trip will always involve several changes. For prices look up Nice - Ventigmilia on www.sncf.fr, and Ventimiglia - Vernazza on www.trenitalia.it

I see the previous poster wrote "Vernazza" whereas you are actually asking about Varazze. Anyway the suggestion about the website to use is very good, and the route is via Ventimiglia. It will take time (3 hours or more), because only regional trains are available for this trip, and they are slow because they make lots of stop. You will have to change train in Montecarlo and again in Ventimiglia before getting to Varazze.
Travel Tips for Nice
Pricy Meals in Restaurants.... make your own lunch
by chagi1
If you are trying to save some money and avoid some of the over priced restaurants in this region... stop off at any Patisserie, buy some excellent french bread, get some cheese maybe a wonderful Olive spread.. a plastic knife.. a blanket and you are set!!!
Many people (locals and tourists) head to the sea shore line at lunch where they enjoy their packed lunches.
It's a beautiful setting for a tiny picnic, it saves some money.. and if you are with the right person, it can be so romantic!!!
Enjoy!

Sitting at Promenade des Anglais. Enjoy the breeze also enjoy looking at anything my eyes cannot refuse. I remember that night I was wondering around the town area in Nees and suddenly I saw a Russian look-alike cathedral, I took that photo but my lousy camera couldn't produce anything better than a 'blackout'....
Place Massena: tecktonik dance mecca
by Elainehead
If you go to Place Massena on weekends, you will hordes of teens dressed in tight jeans and t-shirts (like the new-rave scene in the UK) - the boys with the trademark hairstyle: the fauxhawk - moving their bodies with quick movements with hands, arms and feet.
For a few seconds you will think this is Harajuku... anyway, not sure if tecktonik "battles" happen that often, but the last time, one was being taken where the teens go to skate. It was impossible to get a good look at the "battle" due to the number of teens gathered around.
I’m no dancing expert and no longer a teen, so it took me a while to find out more about this "new" dancing style called Tecktonik that's spreading like a virus here.... If you would like to see videos of this dance, search on YouTube.
On the brink between old and new
by Pavlik_NL
Just between the old town and the place where nice's first expantions took place, a wide open place attracts the view of the tourist that is surprised by it, after wandering the narrow labyrinth of the old centre. This is Place Garibaldi, which commemorates on of the Nicoise most famous persons with a statue. Garibaldi, as some might know, is the founder of the present Italian state. He knew to convince the several smaller kingdoms within the Italian land to cooperate together and form one strong country along the "boot" of the whole peninsula. He however - no doubt - included the Cote d'Azur within his ideas, but due to other conflicts Italy lost this area to the French Republic. Influences of Italian past however visible throughout the whole region.
Cocteau's Villefranche
by NiceLife
Another short bus ride, Route 100 from Nice Gare Routiers, will drop you off at the next town along the Riviera direction Monaco, of Villefranche.
Here is a restfull and attractive little "village" with harbour, beach, cafes and restaurants and a few sights such as Cocteaus inspired frescos in the Chapel St Pierre.
Visit Villefranche virtually
