Good Value Central one star

Arrived midnight on night of national strike.
Owner had stayed up, and friendly welcome in half French/ English. Room small, but clean and functional.

Unique Quality: Very central, in pedestrian area, with good internet/ phone office very close. Near galerie Lafeyette. Owner patron gives personal attention. Taxi comes very close. Buses nearby.
Would definitely return if looking for cheap, clean central room.

More about Hotel Rex

Great value,great location-a gem !

by TripAdvisor Member kj5556

Situated on Rue Massena, but very quiet due to its unusual layout, this is a gem of a one star hotel. The rooms are basic but comftable, spotlessly clean, and Thierry the owner could not have been more helpfull.I paid 40 Euros a night which is amazing value in central Nice.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone on a budget, but i would also say that it puts many higher rated properties to shame..don't hesitate to stay here !

Clean, Central, and Charming!

by TripAdvisor Member BEM124

This hotel was excellent for the price. Unlike many inexpensive hotels in France, the decor didn't look dated. It was pretty, Provencal, shabby chic. The location is perfect, in Nice's pedestrian zone and five minutes from the Promenade des Anglais and the old city. This is certainly not a luxury establishment, and don't expect involved service, English-speaking help, or amenities, but it's wholly deserving of it's one star. We enjoyed the feeling of coming home to an apartment building (the hotel is located within one) rather than a big hotel.

Just a few drawbacks to be aware of: If you're a light sleeper, there was a lot of noise here from other residents in the building and the courtyard, the walls must be thin. Also, the bed was not the most comfortable we have slept in and was small for my tall husband. It was fine for two nights, but I'd hesitate about it for more than three.

What a gem

No need to place photographs as another traveller has already done so. For a 1* hotel is excellent value. Good decor and clean. The hotelier is friendly and very welcoming. Good location and close to the old town.
Will most definitely use this hotel again.

Go for it!

Well done to the owner Thierry for this superbl little place. He takes obvious pride in his establishement and it shows in the attention to detail in the rooms. The rooms are decorated cheerfully and are very clean and modern. It's a steal. Go for it and reward someone for good service and a good product.

Excellent!

Centrally located just off the Place de Messena close to both old and new parts of Nice, and near the beach too. Walking through the door from the busy shopping street you enter an inner courtyard which houses the wonderful Hotel Rex and a warm welcome from the proprieter. For the price I would say the accomodation and location offered by the Rex are unbeatable! Highly recommended!

nice ...

by TripAdvisor Member Andy97239

Just got back from our trip to Europe and while in Nice we stayed at Hotel Rex. Having read all the reviews on this hotel I could not agree more, great location, spacious, nicely decorated, clean, friendly manager – overall unbeatable value. If you carry large/heavy luggage be aware of tiny stairs. I would definitively use this hotel next time. Thank you Thierry!

Great price for the location!

by TripAdvisor Member reve23

My husband and I just returned from our vacation in France and we spent 3 nights at the Hotel Rex in Nice. We were looking for a budget hotel and Hotel Rex was just as we had expected from the reviews and photos on Tripadvisor. We had booked a double room for 55 € a night and we weren’t disappointed. The hotel is located in an apartment building on the Rue Massena (just off the Place Massena) on the 2nd floor. From the main door you climb a flight of stairs to a footbridge that goes across the courtyard. Then, another flight of stairs and you’re there. There is no elevator so you will have to lug your bags to the top.

The hotel has a great location for the price. It’s just off the Place Massena and a 10 minute walk from the beach and Vieux Nice. Usually there is a direct bus from the railway station but because of all the construction on the roads, a lot of the bus routes have been changed. They are building a tramway/light rail in Nice and the construction will continue until sometime in 2007. Our bus dropped us 2-3 blocks from Rue Massena and we carried our stuff the rest of the way.

Our room was quite spacious and extremely clean. The bathroom is a little small and has a sliding door (without a lock) which is more like a screen than a door. Since there is very little privacy, this may be a problem if you are traveling with a person you are not completely comfortable around. Also, my husband said that the bed wasn't big enough for him and that his feet would stick out of the bed a little. And he is not unusually tall...about 5'11''. I was very comfortable but a taller person may not be.

The owner, Thierry Pech, is extremely helpful and very friendly. We arrived by train in the morning and M. Pech got our room ready and gave it to us way before check-in time. He also gave us useful tips regarding parking and transportation. We also felt very safe at the hotel since the door of the apartment building is locked after 9pm (guests have a key of course) as is the main door of the hotel.

All in all, this is a great hotel for budget travelers. We would definitely stay here again!

Even OK for Princesses

by TripAdvisor Member orion_8

I can be a bit of a princess when it comes to hotels, so when I found out our Nice hotel was a One Star hotel I was nervous. Still, the price made it worth it so we made our way there.
Boy were we pleasantly suprised. In addition to the helpful man who owns the place, the rooms were great. Nothing glamorous or anything - but they were clean and exactly looked how they look in pictures we found online. Plus, the location CANNOT be beat as it is situated on a popular pedestrian street seconds from the beach.

Fab little hotel!!!

by TripAdvisor Member Slinky69

This hotel is brilliant value for the price - 58 Euros a night for a hotel right in the centre of Nice, abot 5 minutes walk from seafront. Also there is a bus from the airport you can catch for 4 euro, and get off at Albert 1er and the hotel is 5 minutes walk away.

The owner is very helpful and freindly, the rooms are extremely clean, like someone else mentioned you do feel safe here as the doors are locked after 9pm or whenever Thierry is not at reception.

It also extra good for people on a budget as our room had a kitchenette with microwave, fridge, sink and utensils so wouldnt necesserily have to go out to eat. - make sure to ask as dont think they all do.

The bathroom doors are a little un-private as they are only shutters with no lock, so make sure if you sharing you ok with that..... !!! And be prepared to carry cases up 2 sets of stairs ( If I can manage anyine can!)

It can be a little warm on a night as obviously there is no AC, but other than that I would definatley stay here again...!
