Nice's beaches are actually...
by Hawk269
Nice's beaches are actually covered with small stones. (If you are looking for sandy beaches, I would recommend nearby Antibes.)
However, you would be remissed if you did not take at least a stroll along their gorgeous shoreline.
Nice Tip

The lovely PROMENADE DES ANGLAIS and its pebbly beach deserves an entire chapter! In summer, you'd see lots of men flocking to this place to oogle (!) at some of the Riviera's sexiest gals sunbathing topless here. :-) Aha, MEN, your secret is out!
Parlez français
by b1bob
Try to speak French if you can. In Paris, they might make fun of your Louisiana Cajun accent, but not so much in Nice. It will get you better and more prompt service in restaurants, for example. The French hold politeness at a high premium. So, use please (s'il vous plait) and thank you (merci) a lot.
GET LOST!

hop on any bus in town and try to get lost in the city. this is a fun way to find great architecture, sculptures, scenery, as well as meet locals. tho the tourist attractions can be great it's sometimes more rewarding to discover something on your own. once you're away from touristic areas, you also watch prices dropping significantly.
Vence: more medieval jiggery pokery
by NiceLife
Vence is a fortified busy market town with a medieval old town centre, some 45 minutes away from Nice via the 400/410 TAM bus from Gare Routiere.
Its perfect for those who like to wander through narrow winding streets of a different age, and a morning market suggests making an early start.
But Vence's most outstanding feature is Matisse's wonderous Chapel Rosaire, about a kilometre walk north west of the town. Here Matisse designed everything, from the priests vestments, to the awe-inspiring patterned stained glass windows. A uniquely moving experience, and its location allows you to take in fine views of Vence set in the valley.
