Helpful on the phone when phoning from London I okayed myself to stay at this place as a base as I was told it was a fairly quiet time despite being the time of the Nice Carnival and that I wouldnt need to prebook. This was still the same message when I phoned from out of town for the night I was wanting to stay - and I still ended up with a room to myself by nights that I stayed.
After paying 42 euro for the first nights accommodation, at Castellane, I decided that paying only 21 euro with a decent breakfast included and free parking around the streets over the weekend, that this was the best deal for me - stay both nights and keep it as a base and for the morning of departure Id also be nearby with only a short drive to the airport.
The hostel is in like a large mansion house but fairly new interior. The reception area is light and roomy and clean - 24 hours - and includes a bar where you can have a beer or tea or coffee.
Seating area to hang around, use the internet and so on.
My room was for 4 people comprising 2 bunks but I luckily had the whole room to myself. Theres a shower in the room with door (the hostel in Paris had no doors - privacy not required there!) and a sink.
Good locker space and small amount of wardrobe hanging space. Toilets handy just out the door.
Windows open to the balconies which make it nice to be able to peer at your views of the street and surrounding neighbourhood. Large Norfolk pine out my window was nice.
Directions: Small side street near Avenue Jean-Medecin. A few streets up from the sea front/promenade.
Very pretty and outstanding location for younger people - a French youth hostel with a little bit of style. -Good safe area for a central location
Just off the main shopping street Av Jean Medecin close to the Nice Etoiles shopping mall. Six minutes walk to the railway station Nice Gare Ville - ten minutes to the bus station. Good bus connection therefore to the airport - a half hour/ 4 euro
Unique Quality: Other youth hostels are around - the most picturesque is to be found on top of Mont Boron.
Apparently Les Camelias does not accept online booking - no doubt due to the disorganised lifestyle of their clientelle . (Yes, that probably sounds grumpy but, as they say, if you are not grumpy by a certain age you're just not paying attention)
Directions: Off Nice Etoiles in the very centre of Nice. Handy for train station.
