Budget Hotel with a View

This is a great budget hotel. It's small and older but the owners are wonderful people and the view simply can't be beat.

It is near the top of a hill overlooking Nice and there is a bus stop right at the hotel door. They don't have parking but we had no trouble parking on a nearby street.

It's clean; you have a private bath; the food is good; the transportation options are excellent and if you have any problems like Air France not getting your luggage on your flight, the owner will go out of his way to help you.

If you're looking for a three or four star hotel, this is not for you. If you are looking for an inexpensive, friendly, clean hotel, you've found one.

Unique Quality: The view from several rooms and from the dining room and lounge can't be beat. You overlook Nice and the bay. It is just incredible.

An added bonus, the owner's wife is an artist and the hotel is decorated with her delightful paintings.

You can book via the hotel's web site or you can find them at the Logis de France web site, http://www.logis-de-france.fr/uk/

Nice Airport to Monte Carlo by train?

by eugene.uk

Dear all

I have just learnt there are direct trains to Monte Carlo from the train station at Nice Airport (Gare Saint-Augustin). That would save us the bus journey into Monaco.

How easy is it to get to Gare Saint-Augustin from the airport terminals? Is it possible to walk? Is the route clearly sign posted?

Thanks
Merci

Eugene

It's an easy walk. I guess it will be signposted, but I know the way, so I've never really noticed.

Travel Tips for Nice

In France, VISA is preferred,...

by Sarah97

In France, VISA is preferred, and even Mastercard is not accepted in many places. Once, we run out of cash in Nice after 2 months backpacking tour to Europe. So we wanted to receive the cash advance with Master card, but we had to visit many banks! That was really embarassing! I hope things are better now!

La Grande Roue - The Big Wheel

by Elainehead

The Big Wheel is not always at Place Masséna, but you will surely see it by the end of the year until before Carnival.

At the Big Wheel you have a spectactular view of Nice. 5 Euros per person.

Tip: Take a warm jacket.

ADDRESS: Place Masséna.

Packing List

by vivimero

fancy dresses but also beach dresses. It's a town, so don't walk around as on a beach! Resort There is everything.... It's really great even in january BUt in the summertime is humid and hot like in milan, so better to go there in the springtime. Soending there july or august is really a waste of money, for me.

The Fort du Mont Alban

by NiceLife

Not to be confused with The Chateau, the ruined Fort dating back to the 16th Century sits up on the top of Mont Boron, a short walk from the No 14 bus end of the line.

The Castle is derelict and to be visited mainly for its spectacular view Southwest over Nice and Northeast over the deep water harbour of Villefranche and the "fingers" of the Cap Ferrat reaching out into the Mediteranean. It shares the view with a telecommunications station, and Sir Elton a little way along the hill.
(It may be worth mentioning Eltons villa is wholly inaccessible and invisible from any public areas)

Lit up at night, the fort provides a familiar reference point on the skyline to both Nice and Villefranche.

Brazilian & Portuguese products

by Elainehead about Chez Luisa

Chez Luisa is tiny shop selling products (mainly food/drinks) from Portugal and Brazil. You are very well-received here (contrary to some French shops) and prices are more expensive than other Portuguese shops. My mother-in-law (RIP) used to buy cod fish here.

You will find drinks and alcohool at the back of the shop.

Closes in end of July till the end of August. Can of Guaraná Antarctica: 1 Euro.

1/2 liter bottle of Guaraná Antarctica: 2€50
