Hotels and hostels are easy to...

Hotels and hostels are easy to find in the centre of town. Campings you can find just out of the city. An example is Parc Montana 'Le Sourire', Route de Grasse / D 2085, 06270 Villeneuve/Loubet, tel. 93 20 96 11, Fax 93 22 07 52.

The first time we were in Nice (1991) we stayed at a very nice hotel, a bit away from the action, called the Beach Regency. I don't know if it is still there.

If you're on a budget I'd...

If you're on a budget I'd really recommend that you don't attempt to find anywhere too close to the Promenade or Massena. If you stay a little further into town the prices drop and you get more for your money. Also, it only takes 10-15 minutes to stroll down to the beach.

When we first arrived in Nice, we stayed at the HOTEL LYONNAISE on Rue de Russie which is not far from rue Jean Medicin, the main shopping street.

They have a mixed bag of rooms, some with en suite toilets and showers and some without that share a bathroom on the corridor. If you book ahead you can take your pick, if not it's pot luck!
Although very basic and a bit frayed around the edges, it's clean and comfortable.

In summer 2001 the cost for a double en suite room was 300F per night.

Needing to find something a little more long term, we found by accident that the Hotel Notredame next door has a studio apartment separate from the hotel that was newly refurbished with a lovely shower room and kitchenette. That was also 300F per night and I'd strongly recommend it.

Having said all that, if you're booking ahead and planning on staying for more than a week, there are loads of holiday appartments on the web that work out much cheaper and better value for money. This is what we would have done if we had longer to plan our trip!

Résidence Eiffel in...

Résidence Eiffel in Beaulieu-sur-Mer
The Résidence Eiffel offers a millionaire's location on a middle class budget. The villa was owned by M. Eiffel, the engineer who built the tower that bears his name, and sits right on the Mediterranean in one of the poshest stretches of the Côte d'Azur.

Villeneuve-Loubet Plage is...

Villeneuve-Loubet Plage is dominated by a gigantic marina, constructed in the 1970th to a design of Andre Minangoy encircled by four unusual pyramids – ultramodern resort complex Marina Baie des Anges.
$$$

We spent a week here and have mixed feelings about this resort. Location is great, resort looks fantastic, but…You should be prepared to pay for everything (in addition to timeshare exchange costs); they charge for linen; for cleaning; security deposit around $500 etc. Our bedroom window faced busy noisy street with trains and cars running 24 by 7. There is no any kind of activities at resort (introduction meeting, organized excursions etc.). Staff is very slow to response to any kind of request.

Hotel L'Oursin in Cap Ferrat: Hotel L'Oursin in Cap Ferrat

We paid about $60 a nite for the two of us.

Rooms full of color and character, each one different. Good amount of street parking (free). Right in the heart of quaint Cap Ferrat. Walking distance to - well - any and everything on the Cap. A proper swimming beach is a 5 minutes stones throw.

The dormitory

The dormitory at the Faculté des Lettres was spartan but comfortable. I don't necessarily recommend it for the discerning traveler, but I've stayed in worse places than this.

It had a rather comfortable bed, a desk and a chair. Sorry, ladies, my friend Brad doesn't come with it. He's been spoken for since 1992 and remember the photo was taken in 1989.

On this trip we stayed at a villa called Le Mas des Oliviers, which is run by the Rhode School of Cuisine. There were just five rooms, which meant that the four staff in attendance pretty much waited on us hand and foot. I've never felt so decadent. This is a view of the villa taken from the pool deck, which overlooks the Mediterranean.
