Re: Eze village looking for a nice place to Picnic up there..

Hi Jeff
Eze is really one of the most enchanting places to visit.

Unless you purchase a meal at one of the cafes, I can not see "picnic type food" there. I would consider dining right at the cafe - tough to surpass the food, view, and service.

But if it is a picnic you desire - which I really like the idea, take a bottle of wine, some cheese, and some fruit, and go up to the garden (the very top of Eze). There is an entry fee, but it is worth it. At the very top, there are some crumbled ruins with stones large and flat enough to share a meal on.

Check out my Eze page.

Enjoy your trip.

Travel Tips for Nice

Place Massena Tramway

by al_mary

As of November 15, 2005 ....
Please be patient and watch
where you walk while all of
the construction is going on ....

The whole Place Massena is still
dug up for construction of the new
tramway system in Nice that was
started in February 2005 ....

Completion expected mid 2006 Seeing the tramway system being installed has made us
want to return to Nice to see it when it is finished.

The focal point will be the pedestrianised Place Massena.
From there it will run directly north and east. Heading up
north, the whole of the shopping district of Jean Medecin
will also be pedestranised. It will continue up past the train
station all the way up to the Nice football stadium. Heading
east, it will will run down the also to be pedestrianised Jean
Jaures, skirting the Old Town, through the piazza of Place
Garibaldi and then onwards towards the extreme east of Nice
that the Mayor hopes to rejuvinate.

The estimated cost:
The tramway will cost 370 million euros, and has over 1,200
contruction workers engaged on the project at any one time.
Completion is expected mid 2006 ......

visit the smaller cities along the coast of the french riviera... st. tropez, st. jean cap ferrat, cannes, and monaco. there are others too, but i didnt have time to see them all. but i will be back to see them. walking along the coastal cliffs of st. jean cap ferrat. magnificent coastline views east of nice and west of monaco. the calm serenity of the area was so surreal.

Les Barbajuans

by ange_famine

I don't think you'll find them in restaurants. They are more of a starter and can be bought in good bakeries, to be eaten as appetizer with a glass of wine or Pastis.
They look like beignets made with rice, parmiggiano, oil and chard. The paste is rolled into balls and fried.

Boulevard Général Louis Delfino

by Muscovite

General Delfino wasn’t always a general.

In 1944 he was a fighter pilot at the Russian-German front, to become the head of a French Air Force fighter squadron later the same year. He was lucky to survive - less than half of them did, had a brilliant career and is buried at Caucade in his native Nice.

Other people may claim the French surrendered their capital without fighting and waited for the Allies to give it back to them. This is not the France we Russians know. For us France at war is mainly Normandie-Niemen, and we are proud to have them with us.

We took a day trip to the Iles...

by travelmad478

We took a day trip to the Iles de Lerins, which we reached via boat from Theoule-sur-mer. The staff at our villa packed us an amazing picnic lunch, which we ate after wandering around the island and exploring the fort located there. There is a rocky beach on the island where we spent the afternoon soaking up some Riviera sun.
