More about Mercure Nice Promenade des Anglais
Great place to stay
by TripAdvisor Member Combertraveller
We stayed at this hotel in Mid May and would thoroughly recommend it as a really good value option for a hotel in Nice. The location was excellent - about 5 mins walk from the old town and 10 secs from the Promenade des Anglais- we had considered staying in Le Meridian hotel but changed our minds as it was out of our price range - well this hotel makes up one of the sides of its block and the view from our room would have been just as good as some of the cheaper rooms there. Our room had a balcony and a reasonable view of the sea, although restricted. The decor isn't that bad - at least it's a not a ghastly brown coulour much loved in many French hotels. The bathroom and room were fine - no smells of ay description -smoke, sewage, air freshener or otherwise. Staff were very helpful - we were able to leave our bags in reception on our final day as our flight didn't leave till the evening. The only minus point was the breakfast - the food was laid out and not replenished so if you came down to breakfast late there wasn't a great selection of food ie no cheese or fruit salad and the waiting staff weren't terribly efficient- but the food itself was OK.
Overall a good experience - yes not top top of the range but excellent value for money
Fantastic View!

We booked this room for the last night of a stay around the french and italian rivieras and were really pleased this was our finale!
The room was massive (and actually a triple) with a plasma screen tv, and a bed that we wanted to take home as it was sooo relaxing!
The rooms as described are orange and blue - but quite nice. The bathroom was the only let down as it was pretty grotty - although again, large.
I have scored this hotel as above average as we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and the location is fantastic. If you are splashing out on this hotel, it IS definitely worth booking a sea view.
Great Hotel

I stayed here for the Monaco Grand Prix this May 2006. I had a huge room for one person with a king size bed. The room had so much space i felt very comfortable there and didn't feel like leaving my room in any hurry. The tv's are great with the big plasma screens. The bathrooms are big with a shower over the bath. There is a pull in/out rope for your laundry over the bath which is handy if you want to do some hand washing yourself as the nearest laundry mat i found was up towards the train station. I had a view over the park and down to the ocean. This was value for money considering the prices that you pay for the weekend when the grand prix is on and also Cannes film festival was still going. As a single traveller you felt very safe in the area and the hotel. The front desk was always friendly and helpful. I didn't do breakfast so i cannot comment on the food. It is in a great location when looking for your evening meal. There is some restaurants on the promenade at beach level, along to where the flower market is, the upper level of the promenade and all along the back streets behind the hotel. I was very happy with my stay there i would return without hesitation. They do have an internet service there for when it is late, but there is a cafe about 5 minutes walk along the promenade. The bus to the airport stops in front of the hotel for you return journey there, on the way there you get off just before or just after the hotel. You can get an iron and board from the front desk also which is difficult in a lot of other hotels. Basically it has just about everything you need for a very comfortable stay.
best short break for years in a great hotel and very nice 3star hotel
by A TripAdvisor Member
although arrived early and had booked twin beds, they offered a very large bed at that time which was excellent for a 3 star hotel.
asked for sea view but was told there were none, there was, but should have been told it was extra, but our room was fine.
hotel reception staff overall were very friendly, easy to talk to, so very helpful, and made us feel at home.
had seen reports that lobby and hotel smelt of smoking, not at all, clear fresh air all the time.
bed was better than the carlton in cannes for comfort..
breakfast excellent who could ask for anything more.
booking tours and taxis excellent.
excellent location close to everything promonade, town, transport.
WORST .......it appeared they had serious problems with their housekeeping, the rooms were always done very late about 5pm????
one piece of small soap for 2 people for basin, shower/bath and beday...
when the room was done it was clean......
we would stay there again when in Nice....
the two older gentlemen on reception were the very best professionally and so helpful.
Good hotel

We book this hotel thru its official site and we had this great deal for 120 Euros. Unfortunately, I wrongly booked this hotel, supposedly we were to leave on the day before. We were turned down at first, knowing that it's a Hot Deals without a cancellation or change. We emailed the hotel and was very surprised to know that they told us that they can change ours.
The hotel was located infront of the beach, sharing the same building with Le Meridien, Casino, and McDonald's. They have rooms which face the balcony, but we got rooms which face the inner side of the hotel (a garden). There were 3 beds on each rooms. The rooms' decor was colorful, and they have this LCD TV so it's a bit of a nice thing. The bathrooms are OK and no complains except that when you take a bath it's 75% the water would spill down to the bathroom. But on the last day just when we're doing a double check before checking out, a sewage smell came out from the sink.
The hotels' corridor was really long, if you're located far from the elevator. The breakfast was in the 1st floor and was good (15 Euro per person, childrens eat free) and spacious too.
Convenient Location

We found this hotel to be in a very central location, right opposite the sea and close to many restaurants. The decor was quite dark with dull orange walls but the rooms were a good size, the bed was very comfortable and the bathroom seemed clean and new. We thought breakfast was good but it was a shame they didn't clear and relay the tables. The bus stop for the airport is right outside the hotel and the walk to the station or port takes about 10 minutes.
Loved this hotel!

I stayed here with my husand, baby daughter and family for a long weekend in September 06. The location of this hotel was excellent, right on the beach and promenade, with lots of very good, reasonably priced restaurants along the same street and around the corner. In the square around the corner at the weekends lots of street performers would entertain us whilst eating late at night. Great atmosphere. Hotel was also a short walk to the train station and has a bus stop right outside too.
The rooms were painted dark orange and dark green, so the rooms were not very light, but otherwise no complaints about the rooms. On the whole they were very clean and comfortable and a good size. Bathroom very clean. TV and safe in the room.
The hotel does not have a pool but you can use the pool in the hotel next door for 16 euros. Staff were also very helpful. Would definately stay at this hotel again and recommend to friends and family.
Great Location

My 2 college girlfriends and I stayed at this hotel for 5 nights in Sept. The hotel was in a great location. Across the street is the beach and the promenade. At the back of the hotel are full of cafes and restaurants. It's very convenient and central location. The staff we encountered were very friendly. Actually, everyone we met in the South of France were wonderful. My recommendation would be to spend the extra money for a sea view room, it's worth it. We originally reserved for a non-sea view room, and decided to pay extra for the sea view room. We were glad that we did it!
The room itself was okay, a little bit dated, but still comfortable and the size was enough for us. We're really only there to sleep and shower as we were out most of the time. I do agree with the bathtub. It only has half a door, so there's always going to be water spilling all over the bathroom floor by the time you're done. But compared to the other hotels we've stayed in London and Paris, the bathroom at the Mercure Promenade was a better size.
As for the smell of the room and the hotel, yes there definitely is smell inside our rooms even though we were given a nonsmoking room. But so many people we saw in Europe smokes so the permanent smell has probably embedded inside the hotel, furniture, carpets, wall, etc. Being from CA, some people aren't used to this, esp now since a couple of CA cities are currently becoming non-smoking cities. But if you're okay with the smell of Las Vegas casinos, then you should be fine with it.. I know one of my friends who has a sensitive smell esp with smoking couldn't really stand the smell at first, but just got used to it after a while.
But overall it was the best hotel we've stayed out of the 3 cities in Europe and we all loved the South of France. The people were very friendly and wonderful. Great hospitality. Hope to come back again soon and I wouldn't mind staying here again!
Don't miss staying here if..............

your mattress means anything to you - best we had in 3 weeks. Also the room had a double and a single bed .
We had a great view - see picture, great location w/sea view and close to old town, restaurants and people watching. Did I mention great A/C and hot water (w/lots of pressure). Parking in garage just below hotel. Just walk out the door to maybe 20/30 restaurants. Oh - No noise on street side rooms because they added a second glass barrier (which is the reason the balcony is a little too narrow for furniture). Staff friendly. Senior discount. You may find better, but I won't - when I return this is my hotel

View of Carnival from a hotel balcony?
by sjohnston_26
Hello,
My husband walks with two big metal canes due to an accident. It is difficult for him to move around in crowds. Are there any hotels with rooms that have a good view of the parades? Thanks for your input.

The route of the carnival is here
http://www.nicecarnaval.com/plan.html
Looks like this is same as last year, or it is last years, no matter. You have a wide range of choices all along the avenue verdun and the promenade des anglais between Le Meridien and the Negresco where the parade turns around
Depends on your budget but consider sea vew rooms at Westminster Concorde, West End, Merecure Promenade, or Le Meridien
Dates are 13th Feb to 1st March, and the Parades run on specific dates only - all in the brochure on line
Should be fun as always
