Premier Hotel West End
31 Promenade Des Anglais, Nice, French Riviera - Cote d'Azur, 06000, France
Make Sure of Your Reservation !!
When we arrived at the West End earlier this week, we were told that our reservation had been cancelled !! The management were unable to explain why or by whom, and after much argument they admitted that we had paid for a room but that they were full. So they paid for a taxi and sent us to the Hotel Aston, where we were given a very poor room. The air conditioning wasn't working and the cupboards were broken and dirty. We complained and were given a smaller room but at least it was cool (in temperature !)
We had booked via Expedia so we contacted them, and they were very good. They rang the West End and after having been initially fobbed off, they eventually managed to extract a promise that everything would be done in the hotel's power to accommodate us. However, by the next evening nothing had been done, so we rang the West End and after a great deal of argument they found us a room in the Beau Rivage, which is an excellent hotel where we have stayed before.
We are convinced that the West End had overbooked and did not have the decency to admit this. Instead they pushed us off to the Aston which, although not a bad hotel, is not up to the standard we had paid for. My partner is recovering from illness and we had reserved a "superior room with a balcony and sea-view" so that we could both relax and enjoy a few days in the sun. Instead we had a very stressful first day, and a holiday interrupted by having to change rooms and hotels. We were only in Nice for three nights, the first of which was ruined. Fortunately the Beau Rivage made us very comfortable and we were happy enough there, although we did not have the balcony and sea-view for which we had paid.
So the lesson is, ensure that, if you are going to stay at the West End, you email then and get them to confirm your booking. As you might imagine we are not happy with the management, although we are sure it's a very nice hotel, and have no intention of ever staying there !!
A view to die for!
Have stayed there twice, once in 2001 and once June 2004. Had a 5 star experience and a 1 star experience in the same hotel! Some rooms are renovated, lovely, updated baths, while others (same costs) are small, cramped, badly in need of new carpeting, etc. But the location is great, the beach is right there, breakfast is devine, and the people are friendly.
Unique Quality: Both times we had rooms with balcony's that overlooked the sea. This year they had a firework display (we were a little worried when the first boom went off:) that we watched from our balcony
Directions: On the beach. This is a Best Western hotel, but not cookie cutter...very old Nice
Traditinal building with American hospitality
Hotel West-End Nice is located on the famous Promenade des Anglais that is a long wide road along the blue Mediterranean. It is next to the most famous hotel Negresco. Hotel West-End Nice is run by one of large American hotel chains. All the staff were very friendly. Some of the rooms were under renovation. If you stay this hotel, I would recommend you a renovated room with breakfast.
Unique Quality: My favorite place in the hotel was the grand floor restaurant. It was not large but beautiful with Art Deco interior. There were lovely wooden chairs and tables covered with white cloth. The small flower arrangement on the table reminded me that it was Christmas season. They offered some bread, eggs, cheese, hum and some drink in buffet style. It was not large selection but tasted good. Every morning we looked at peoples jogging or walking with their dogs on the Promenade. All seemed to enjoy the healthy and pleasant life in French Riviera.

Perfect for a special occasion
We stayed at the West End Hotel, Nice for our silver wedding anniversary 20th to 24th July 05 and were thrilled by the service and special treatment by the staff. They upgraded us to a newly refurbished suite, which was perfect. The food and service was amazing. All the staff were so pleasant - they just could not do enough for us. It is just a perfect hotel for this sort of occasion and Nice was really lovely, even if the beach is not brilliant.
I stayed at this hotel in February 2004 and won't be going back. I thought it was a 4 star hotel, at least that's what it claimed and its price seemed to reflec this. However, I have been in better bed and breakfast accomodation than this. I can truly say it was one of the worst hotels I have had the misfortune to visit. The room was dark and dingy and the bathroom was absolutely filthy. The shower head was missing, the taps chrome finish was coming loose; the bath tub was brownish due to limsescle build up and more sinister unpleasantries and the water in the wash basin would not drain away quickly enough due to blockage. It may look grand on the outside, but believe me from what I experienced this hotel is very disappointing on the inside.
West End Hotel
my husband and i have just returned from a two night stay in the West End and cannot see what all the fuss is about!!! Having read the majority of reviews on this page i admit i was filled with apprehension but was i ever surprised. On arrival the concierge took our luggage allowing us to promptly check in and receive maps, details of excursions and a weather check from the extremely helpful receptionist. Having been shown to our room our luggage arrived approx 5 mins later.
Later that evening we spent some very relaxed time in the bar of the hotel where the barman entertained us until the early hours. He was perhaps one of the nicest people we have ever met - a sentiment which i would also apply to the other hotel staff.
The rooms, yes appear to be dated but please remember nice is a cultural city - the hotel was built in "belle epoque" style and unlike some of the major chains wishes to retain that charm.
I would reccommend this hotel to anyone - the location is unrivalled and the service we received superb - so good in fact that we have actually booked for my husbands parents to stay there in March .
Best Location in Nice
We spent 3 days and two glorious nights in Nice at this hotel. We were on the top floor and the view from our small balcony where we drank wine and relaxed late afternoons, was of the Hotel Negresco and the Mediterranean Sea!
The room was clean. The bathroom was big, however, taking a shower without a shower curtain was quite difficult and messy. We had non-smoking rooms. A great breeze came in the room if we opened the door to the balcony, however, at night we shut them because of the noise.
The staff was nice and the Lobby gorgeous! Staying at a hotel on the Promenade was a trip, you can walk safely day and night there. The price of this hotel is a fraction of all the other hotels in this same promenade.
All in all, I think it is a great value for your money. The prices we got through the internet were much lower (1/2) than the ones published at the back of the door.
