Perfect for a special occasion

We stayed at the West End Hotel, Nice for our silver wedding anniversary 20th to 24th July 05 and were thrilled by the service and special treatment by the staff. They upgraded us to a newly refurbished suite, which was perfect. The food and service was amazing. All the staff were so pleasant - they just could not do enough for us. It is just a perfect hotel for this sort of occasion and Nice was really lovely, even if the beach is not brilliant.
Disgusting

I stayed at this hotel in February 2004 and won't be going back. I thought it was a 4 star hotel, at least that's what it claimed and its price seemed to reflec this. However, I have been in better bed and breakfast accomodation than this. I can truly say it was one of the worst hotels I have had the misfortune to visit. The room was dark and dingy and the bathroom was absolutely filthy. The shower head was missing, the taps chrome finish was coming loose; the bath tub was brownish due to limsescle build up and more sinister unpleasantries and the water in the wash basin would not drain away quickly enough due to blockage. It may look grand on the outside, but believe me from what I experienced this hotel is very disappointing on the inside.
West End Hotel

my husband and i have just returned from a two night stay in the West End and cannot see what all the fuss is about!!! Having read the majority of reviews on this page i admit i was filled with apprehension but was i ever surprised. On arrival the concierge took our luggage allowing us to promptly check in and receive maps, details of excursions and a weather check from the extremely helpful receptionist. Having been shown to our room our luggage arrived approx 5 mins later.
Later that evening we spent some very relaxed time in the bar of the hotel where the barman entertained us until the early hours. He was perhaps one of the nicest people we have ever met - a sentiment which i would also apply to the other hotel staff.
The rooms, yes appear to be dated but please remember nice is a cultural city - the hotel was built in "belle epoque" style and unlike some of the major chains wishes to retain that charm.
I would reccommend this hotel to anyone - the location is unrivalled and the service we received superb - so good in fact that we have actually booked for my husbands parents to stay there in March .
Best Location in Nice

We spent 3 days and two glorious nights in Nice at this hotel. We were on the top floor and the view from our small balcony where we drank wine and relaxed late afternoons, was of the Hotel Negresco and the Mediterranean Sea!
The room was clean. The bathroom was big, however, taking a shower without a shower curtain was quite difficult and messy. We had non-smoking rooms. A great breeze came in the room if we opened the door to the balcony, however, at night we shut them because of the noise.
The staff was nice and the Lobby gorgeous! Staying at a hotel on the Promenade was a trip, you can walk safely day and night there. The price of this hotel is a fraction of all the other hotels in this same promenade.
All in all, I think it is a great value for your money. The prices we got through the internet were much lower (1/2) than the ones published at the back of the door.
