A Wonderful place to escape and relax
by Radiomom about Chateau de Roussan
This is a beautiful, 18th century chateau with spacious "publilc" rooms, comfortable bedrooms, incredible grounds, and a very friendly staff. You feel like you've stepped into a movie set for a period piece. The house was originally designed by Nostradamus' brother, but it was completed and made into a gracious residence by the Roussan family for many years. There are natural springs and waterways, swans, and extensive gardens. This would be a neat place for a wedding. Unfortunately we picked the one night a week that their restaurant was closed -- but we knew from our previous visit to St. Remy that we had multiple options. Our "small" double with ensuite bathroom was 80 euro for the night. They provide all kinds of interesting literature about the house itself as well as the surrounding areas. They even provide a complimentary bottle of wine! There are a couple of wonderful house pets -- cats and a couple of large but extremely well-trained and friendly dogs.

Accommodations in surrounding villages
by ellebets
Hello,
We're contemplating the idea of staying in one place in Provence during our 9 day stay. Is this recommended or should we opt to stay in 2 different B&Bs?Any advise on this?
One of the places is in Plan D'Orgon and the other place is in Saint Remy de Provence.
On the one hand, we would like to really connect with one of the places and on the other hand, it's not like we're going to just sit around all day as there are things to see so moving to another B&B should not be a problem.
Your advice is much appreciated!
Many thanks,
Elle

We usually stay out in the country on the N7 near Pont Royal. St. Remy is near there and the town is lovely. The surrounding countryside has enough things to do to keep you busy for years.
St. Remy is a very pleasant town. Plan d'Orgon is really not a town; it's a plain which means if you enjoy walking around town in the evening and visiting cafes and such, you would have to drive some place, probably to St. Remy so you might as well stay there in the first place.
If you plan to do quite a few day trips, St. Remy is more central. The roads in the entire area are excellent. We love the entire area and you probably can't go wrong with either choice.
BTW, try eating at l'Artichouette in la Roque-d'Antheron not too far away. You might enjoy a visit to Roussillon. The town is beautiful and the nearby Ochre quarries are magnificent for a walk. There is so much to do in the area. If you are going in high season, les Baux will be wall-to-wall tourists but if you manage to visit out of season, it is thrilling as are the views from the top of the cliffs. You can easily drive to Aix, Arles and Avignon. If you haven't visited the Pont du Gard, it would be a must-see and we love the Camargue south of Arles.
Enjoy your trip!
