Day trip - what to do in one day in St Tropez?
by sdeekay4
Hi,
Staying in Nice for 4 nights but planning a day trip to St Tropez on the Trans cote d'azur ferry.
I would like to go on the Sunday 25th July as this is our wedding anniversiary.
Will places be open on a Sunday?
Also - what would you recommend doing as we only have 5 hours from 1130-1630 when our boat leaves again?
Thanks

St Tropez is all about the ambience of the place and people watching. Going on a Sunday means you'll miss the twice-weekly market (Tuesday and Saturday) but there will still be plenty of shops and restaurants open. The Annonciade Museum houses an excellent collection of works of major painters of the early 20th century - it's open from 10-12 and 3-7. This summer's special exhibition features Modigliani.
It's your wedding anniversary so a special lunch is in order - the Bistro des Lices (on the Place des Lices) is good for both food and people watching, the Cafe de Paris on the quay is not so good maybe on the food stakes but one of the places to see and be seen.

A suggestion. 5 hours on a small ferry boat going from Nice to St Tropez may be too long so consider taking the same ferry from Cannes and then you could enjoy St Tropez and Cannes during a long day out.
The trains from Nice to Cannes are quite frequent and take from 30 minutes using the faster TGV or 40 minutes using the TER local train.
The ferry from Cannes to St Tropez takes 1 1/4 hours and on the return you may have time to look around Cannes before heading back on a later train to Nice?
5 hours will be long enough to see the 'gin palaces' and watch the other high flyers in St Tropez.

Good suggestion there to cut out part of the Nice-Cannes boat leg, and travel independently between Nice and Cannes.
I have done the Trans Cote ferry and its a good easy one-stop solution for Nice - St Tropez (57 euro I think now) but it is very short. (Also I had a good laugh at the two ladies who missed the 4:30 departure by a couple of minutes, running along the key shouting and waving to the captain, to no avail. A very very expensive trip home, that, with a taxi around £250)
If you want more flexibility and time the preferred solution is to take the train from Nice Ville to St Raphael, and pick up the Bateaux St Raphael ferry at the port to St Tropez. It has quite a few crossings a day each way, especially high season

You can spend more time in St Tropez, as you please.

Move away from the bustle of the town and you will find some gorgeaous beaches, many secluded, although you will find that a lot of people do this same thing. We went up to Cap Taillat, to the south of St.Tropez, and lay in the sunshine amid clear turquoise waters. This photo should tempt you!
Masses of stylish restaurants

Ther is no shortages of eating places in Saint Tropez. Ranging from the merely expensive to the even more vastly expensive, eating out requires a cool head and a wary eye on hidden costs. Even a reasonably priced pizza ceases to become so when the cheapest bottle of wine is three times the price. check for a sensible option.

"Beautiful"
This was our first port after we set sail out of Nice. What a wonderful place to just watch the world go by. The day we where there, there was some sort of wooden yacht gathering. WOW!! I have never seen such beautiful boats in my life. They also had an art exhibit throughout the port as well.
Here is where we had our most expensive bloody mary's ever (12 euros each). However, after a long night in Monte Carlo and in the ship's casino, they were well worth it.
We took this picture while we were touring the Citadelle, which is a must see when you are in Saint Tropez. The views are amazing and the place is packed with history.

Bonjour
I took midnight train from Paris to South France..TGV train line......it takes 10 hour at night and 5 hour in day with same ticket cost..at night. advantage ...you have bed to sleep and arrive in early morning
I stayed 4 days in St.Tropez with my family friend..actually in Ramatulle..which is about 10 minutes drive to main St.Tropez harbour..close by to Pampellone beach..where in 50's ..the movie "And God Created Women" whit Brigitte Bardot was filmed..with it's famous Club 55 Club on beach
It was great change from Paris cold rainy days in mid October..very sunny days and people are very relaxed..very fresh air in Provence..
You smell olive, herbs and sea air
I get tanned from my trip to Europe ..hehe
Don't forget the famous local desert..Tarte Tropezinne..it's creamey cheese filling sandwich between two piece bread..very tasty!
