Ferry to Saint Tropez, excursion from Paris
by anna91
I am trying to figure out the best way to get from Paris to St. Tropez either economically or easily. I looked into the trains and they all drop at St. Raphael at which point one takes a ferry. However I cannot seem to find where that ferry leaves you in St. Tropez. This could be the difference between taking a bus, flight, etc. If anyone knows your help would sooooo be appreciated!! Thanks!

Ferry? It's a bus. St Tropez is on the mainland.
There are no long distance bus services in France, so you have a choice between the train to Frejus or St Raphael/Valescure or a flight to Marseille or Nice, then working your way to St Tropez by local train then the bus.
The bus to St Tropez is route 7601 on this page. Note that it also stops in Frejus, which is nearer St Tropez and has a little railway station.

is the page for the bus services in the Var department.

St Tropez is very tiny, the St Raphael - St Tropez ferry we are not talking Mediterranean cruise liners, there is one harbour at St Tropez where everything goes

Anything on the road is hostage to traffic conditions, which can be very bad. The bus is a hostage to fortune. Its a short walk from the St Raphael railway station to the port for the ferry.

There are a few flights from Paris CDG to La Môle-St Tropez airport. The airport is about 15 km from St Tropez village and costs roughly 80 euros to get a taxi from the airport to the village. There is also an airport in Toulon and the trip from Toulon to St Tropez is quick and easy. Otherwise, the crossing on the ferry from St Raphael takes about one hour and leaves at St Tropez new port, see the circle on this picture shows where the ferry leaves you: http://www.bateauxsaintraphael.com/files/telechargement/103135204_St-Tropez.jpg

To the best of my knowledge there are only two ferry drop off points in St Tropez.
One is slightly west of the marina right on the main car park and about 5 mins slow walk from the harbour the other is in the harbour its self.
Unless you can afford a helicopter flight you will not be flying into St Tropez La Mole perhaps, but it will be an expensive transfer from there.
your only other options are:
A Taxi from St Raphael seriously this only advisable if you own your own bank! and depending on the time of day you travel have about three hours to waste in traffic listening to the driver moan that your journey is costing HIM a small fortune in lost business!!
A Bus depending upon the time of day you travel this will be either slow or very slow but reasonably priced.
Travel Tips for Saint-Tropez
Place des Lices
by JanPeter74
Apart from the old port, Place des Lices is the central square of Saint Tropez. We were there at midday and it was somewhat deserted, apart from the filled terraces to the side, but I can imagine this to be completely different later in the afternoon. Perhaps I have a too vivid imagination, but I pictured this place with many old men playing petanque here.

The Nice - St Tropez Ferry offers you exclusive access to the boot on the other foot.
The lady clearly had the money, Paris Hilton clone , and her hunk trophy male companion a fair bargain. Rippled torso, six-pack stomach, deep tan, dark wavy hair, immaculate rolex, just the right kind of canvas trousers, designer sandals. Everything in its place, game, set and match.
And who said beauty is only skin deep? I only clocked this as the lady pulled down his white sailcloth trouser belt to show the Calvin Klein imprint on the waistband of his underpants beneath. She paid for them and she's going to show them off
On landing at St Tropez, the couple melted invisibly into the beautiful crowd.

Saint-Tropez - fishing village and Jet-Set
by gabyne
Although it became famous due to French films with Brigitte Bardot in the Fifties and got the centre of Jet-Set, Saint-Tropez is still a small and idyllic fishing village.
It is said that the area has a very special light so there are a lot of painters living and working there. And it is true - the colours are much more vivid there - I have no idea, why... ;-)
The painters have their pictures exposed right at the port where you can look at them while they're painting their next oeuvre.
You can find classic pictures of French landscape - Cote d'Azur, Provence, Camargue but also modern art, mostly oil or acryl but also water colours.
On my last visit mid of May I was lucky to be there when Saint-Tropez held celebrations for its founder, the Roman militarist Tropez. About 100 men in 17th or 18th century uniforms did a parade and fired with old guns.
