First time traveler needs help with transportation in France

by nightplay

I am a teacher who needs the most inexpensive way to get from the airport in Nice to Saint Tropez. I don't want to use scooter, rental car or taxi. I can do bus, boat, or train. Please help because I am so confused as I am doing this by myself. Also, if you know of any inexpensive places to eat, that would be most helpful as well.

There is no station at St Tropez.

My suggestion is to take a train from Nice to St Raphael or Frejus then a bus from there to St Tropez. Train times can be found here:

bus times here

I hope that helps.

Hi, my advice would be to take the train to St Rapheal from the airport. You will catch a bus to the station (gare). Once in St Rapheal its about a ten minute walk to the ferry dock. The ferry goes to St Tropez very regular through the high season and it takes you to the side of the port. If you take the bus from St Rapheal to St Tropez you will be on it for hours.....the ferry is about 35 mins. Cheap eats - check out the bakeries in St Tropez, most have cafes inside with 'plat du jours'. Have a great trip. SMG.

Travel Tips for Saint-Tropez

Don't forget your sandals

by reeka

I was in St. Tropez the first week of September, and the days were hot, the evenings were comfortable enough to still be able to wear shorts and tshirts. I forgot my sandals so had to buy some in the town, they are very useful for an adventure holiday!! I brought my Canon camera, which is fine for sightseeing in St. Tropez, but not when you are on an adventure holiday which involves a lot of water!! I recommend a disposable camera for that! Don't forget that swimming costume! The Mediterranean Sea was GORGEOUS!!! Oh, that water was just so warm, which is saying something as I'm one of those people who gets cold when there's a slight breeze! As its St. Tropez be glitzy in the evenings!

Beach near the harbor

by codrutz

In the back of the houses you see in the harbor there is a small beach which is probably crowded in summer, though that is not the famous Nikki beach or a place for famous people, but it is a nice place to watch the water, and they have this strange moon looking monument on the pier.

Nicer than I expected - Very nice actually

by JanPeter74

Most people who know something of the French Cote d'Azur, know Saint-Tropez. During the 1960s, Saint-Tropez became a favourite hangout for the international jetset and has a mundaine reputation ever since.

Too be honest, I expected an overpriced, touristy place, that stuck to this 60s fame and is notorious for its VIP spotting. Well, touristy it is and like any other Mediterranean place somewhat overpriced as well, but despite the big yachts in the port, which are actually quite a nice sight, the village still has a lot of traditional charm. Definitely worth a visit!

Do you know the way to St.Tropez?

by rickyvilla81

I know, they aren't the words. But it is hard to reach. Not much public transport goes to this famous resort, playground of the rich and famous, and there are huge traffic jams going into town. But it is all worth it. St.Tropez is a jewel - it may be full of people with far too much money to care how ridiculous they look, but the harbour is pretty, the old town almost rustic, the beaches nearby (such as Cap Taillat) superb, the market crazy but fun, and the sunshine plentiful.
And there are lots of artists here, at the harbour, selling their wares.
