Home sweet home
I guess if you searched for Albertville, France in VT it means that you are planning a ski trip! Albertville is the nearest town from the most famous ski resorts like Val d'Isere, Les Arcs, Courchevel or Meribel for instance. If these are your destination you will go through Albertville before taking the mountain road.
Most of people know Albertville because it has welcomed the 1992 Winter Olympic
games. I was living in Albertville at this moment and it is just one of my best memory. From this event Albertville is considered as a ski resort! Wrong! It's a little little town (20 000 inhabitants) and you won't find any chair lift in! The town is only at 350m high, so we can see the snow on the mountains all around bur rarely downtown.
On the hill just above Albertville there is Conflans, a medieval village, a kind of mother of Albertville. In fact in the Middle Age, the plain where is today located Albertville was simply a big unhealthy marsh. This part of France at this time was independent and called Duché de Savoie (Savoy Duchy). One day, the Prince of this kingdom, prince Albert decided to build dams in the plain. From this time the people living in Conflans could build their house in the plain and they naturally called this place Albertville (Albert's town). Today, Conflans is a cute little village which kept its old charm. If you come around, do not miss it. I especially suggest you to have a lunch in the restaurant called "the Conflarain". It's my favourite.
