We decided to rent a pedalo and explore the lake. I think it cost 30 francs for an hour, but it's well worth the price. We went so far out on the lake that it took us ages to get back and we had to pay extra. As can be seen from the photo, Sue did most of the pedalling while I worked on my tan:)

L'église Saint-Maurice

Elle demeure le sanctuaire le plus ancien puisque le début de sa construction due à l'initiative du Cardinal de Brogny remonte à 1422. Primitivement édifiée pour tenir lieu de chapelle d'un couvent de Dominicains, elle développa ses constructions par une série de chapelles latérales dont l'édification s'étale sur près d'un siècle.
L'ampleur du vaisseau légèrement basculé ne manque pas d'impressionner le visiteur qui découvrira avec intérêt 2 peintures murales mises à jour lors de la restauration de l'édifice en 1956 : la première, située dans un enfeu pratiqué dans le pilier de la 3 éme travée, représente le Cardinal de Luxembourg Martigues en prière ; la seconde, datée de 1458, occupe toute la dernière travée du choeur et représente la dépouille funèbre de Noble Philibert de Monthoux.

This is the open-air terrace...

This is the open-air terrace of the Hotel Super-Panorama. The hotel is well named - the views from it's terrace are superb. It is set high above the lake by the road that climbs up into the woods.
The views... Red wine! We didn't eat, we just had a few drinks and enjoyed the views. Next day we came back and did it all again!

Basilica : Lake view, stained glass and wax models

Perched atop a hill overlooking the Lac d'Annecy, the Basilica of the Visitation provides a nice vantage point of the lake and the surrounding mountains. Inside you'll find a large mosaic above the alter, several stain-glass windows, and two shrines to Saint Francois and Saint Jeanne containing wax models wearing their actual clothing.... or so they say.

Bottom-line: Nice church, but even better view from the esplanade

Breathtakingly Beautiful Annecy

Annecy is a reasonably sized town in the Haute-Savoie region of eastern France, on the shores of Lake Annecy, approximately 30 kms south of the swiss border and Geneva.

Its altitude is 448 metres above sea level.

I found it an absolutely delightful town to visit (particularly the old town), combining the best of both worlds: a slightly swiss air about it (particularly with the Savoie flags) with the added advantage of French prices rather than the swiss more expensive ones.
The accommodation we had in Annecy had what were for us the best views of our entire 5 weeks in France. So many great memories of our 3 days there.
