Have a walk around the lake
Annecy's lake is what gives the city its very special atmosphere and charm. Walking along its shores, one feels refreshed and dynamic. This also allows for views of the city, and such sights as this nice sunset.

Is Annecy a good place to visit in March as a day side trip from skiing in the Trois Vallees? What do you suggest we see? How can I acquire a guide?
the setting of annecy on the lakeshore is very nice but there is little to do at this period don't lose one day'ski for visiting this town.(i have lived at 20 kms from annecy for 10 yrs)
Try skiing in the morning and then visit Annecy in the afternoon, walk through the charming town and along the lake, have dinner in a pleasant restaurant and return to your ski resort. That would be a pleasant day and you will still get to ski.
Why don't you include a visit to a spa, specially after a good day skiing. I found good addresses on the following web site www.frenchhealthspas.com . Have a good trip
I found the Gorges du Fer located not too far from Annecy. I was thinking of combining the visit to Annecy with the tour of the gorges. Any further thoughts? My group usually likes to ski three days, have a day off and then come back to finish out the week. This way they can see the sights, so some hiking and then go back to Meribel. Thanks for yur help.
Well, if you like to relax for a day you could go to a spa. It is excellent after a few days skiing. You can get refresh and relaxed. Next to Annecy you have Aix les BAins. Check the French Health Spas.com website and you will find information related to it.
Have a good time

The French are very friendly here and are happy to help you out. But most of the times you don't have to ask for the way, because signs are everywhere.
Keep in mind that shops can be closed between 11 am and 3 pm.
The order of visitation was founded in Annecy by François de Sales and Jeanne de Chantal in 1610.
The present monastery was built near the forêt du Crêt du Maure from 1909 to 1930 but Cardinal Tedeschini officially consacrated it only in 1949.
The Thiou canal is Lake of Annecy's natural spillway and has become one of the most attractive elements in the town. It’s actually a source of hydraulic energy, and a means of transport and an their water supply. The quays that run along this stream and are favored by artists who love to paint the"Savoyard Venise". The canal and bridges do give it an air of Venice.
If you're ever in France's Savoie region, Annecy is a place you should not miss. The Old Town is lovely - the canals are lined with flowers and outdoor cafes, at night the streets are lined with strings of lights, and Lake Annecy and the mountains that surround it are gorgeous. Besides Chateau d'Annecy and Palais De L'Isle, there is not much else in terms of "touristy" landmarks. It's really a place to relax and take in the atmosphere. But there are plenty of things to do such as lake activities, souvenir shopping, and walking, walking, walking. There are plenty of wonderful small French restaurants and ice cream shops everywhere, so you won't go hungry. We were in Annecy in August, and the temperature was perfect, no need for a jacket.
