Lake of Annecy
by GUYON
Some decades ago, the Lake was very polluted. Now it is one of the cleanest of the world. It is the result of efforts of the population and the public authority.
In Summer, the temperature of the water is around 20 / 22°c. Sufficiently high to have a pleasant bath.
The Lake is not very large : 14.7 Km long, 0.8 to 3.2 Km large, 27 sq Km, deepest point : 67 m.
Of course, the Lake was dug by a glacier during the last Glacial Era. It is possible to make a round trip in car around the Lake (40 km).
The most beautiful bank is the East one.

The Castle of Annecy
by Lilasel
The castle, with its several towers, is a reminder of the glorious structure the military fort must have had when it was constructed in the 11th century by the Prince of Savoy. Nowadays the annual Animated Film Festival takes place in the castle.
The Sainte-Claire gate
by Lilasel
This gate, whose name recalls the memory of the old Clarisses convent built nearby, has remained intact : its worn hinges, its machicolations, its bell-turret are witnesses to the important role of this town entrance which opens in the direction of Aix-les-Bains and Chambéry. It opens onto the faubourg Sainte-Claire (suburb) which is itself closed at its extremity by a large pointed arch gate : "The Sepulchre Gate" which made up the City's pre-defence.
