In fact I should better not make too much publicity for this residence, just to make sure there will still be vacancy the next time we plan to stay here.
No kidding, this is the BEST location in Chamonix. We stayed here yet 6 times.
All apartments have a view over the Mont Blanc and the Aiguille du Midi. (want to know how the view looks like? Then check my Chamonix travelogue)
A surplus is the Champ (= field) du Savoy just down the balcony. It’s a small ski run, which becomes a landing place for para gliders in Summer. Great animation!
And …incredible, but this residence is only 5 minutes walking from the centre!
The apartments are all 4 (European) ****. I have to admit that American stars are worth twice the value of European stars, but still... you won’t be disappointed.
Unique Quality: Fully equipped kitchen with oven, microwave, electric stove with 4 cooking rings, dishwasher.
Bathroom with bath, shower and hairdryer.
Living room with LCD screen television (new since 2007, but not shown on my photos), DVD player, telephone and large balcony with furniture.
Safe in the bedroom.
By the way, the whole apartment is in Alpine style with pine wood and fitted carpet.
Beds are made up at your arrival and towels are provided (no washcloths!)
Washer and dryer in the basement (5 euros/coin)
Free use of iron and board in the basement as well
Indoor swimming pool, steam room etc...
Free indoor parking.
And for who doesn’t like to cook during holidays: breakfast and dishes can be ordered at the front desk.
Also fondue and raclette devices can be borrowed there, as well as DVDs (several languages).
Price in august 2009 (high season): 359,58 US$ / night for an appartment 5 sleep. Other periods are cheaper.
Here is the only minus: the cleaning (50 euros) is not included, but they leave the possibility to do the cleaning yourself …:-)
Directions: In front of the Club Med Resort, at the Champ du Savoy
This beautiful inn is located just up the hill from Chamonix's Club Med, about a 5 minute walk to the center of town.
In the main part of the winter season there is a lift very close which brings you up Mt. Brevent. In the spring when the snow melts, you have to walk a while across a long field to the main tram which brings you up Mt. Brevent.
If you want to try the Mount Blanc Glacier you need to cross to the other side of town no matter what the season since it is opposite the location of Mount Brevent.
The Inn is small, yet the craftsmanship and interior decorating is impeccable. The interior main lobby has a fireplace, and wet bar with couches to relax upon and reflect your days activities.
The staff is exdtremely friendly and speak English which was welcome since my broken French elsewhere in Chamonix usually ended up in giggles.
They were top notch and willing to make our stay as comfortable as possible. I was so happy here the first time I visited, I returned with my mother the next year so she could experience beautiful Chamonix as well!
Unique Quality: The whole inn as well as the rooms were beautiful. The woodworking, tiling and interior decorating was beautiful as well as the views of Chamonix and Mont Blanc.
The location was in town, but on the outskirts. This meant you could enjoy a short walk to everything your heart would desire to visit, a view that would probably rank in the top ten in the world, and the quiet and serenity of not being in the middle of town.
Directions: 179 RUE MUMMERY - 74400 CHAMONIX MONT-BLANC
We stayed in an apartment in Les Balcons du Savoy on rue Mummery. It was a beautiful 3 bedroom, split-level flat at the foot of mountains, about a five minute walk to the center of town.
There are pictures from the balcony in my Chamonix travelogue.
I think we paid like 300 Euro per night divided by 6 for a 4 room apartment.
