by chooooocolat_moose about Hotel Le Chamonix
We arrived for a mountaineering holiday in Chamonix with the whole basketbal team. Booked the hotel online, which resulted in friendly back and forward chatter.
Hotel served us breakfast outside on the grass, because we were too early. They provided the 4 parents with all necessary accomodation for the kids.
This hotel is only rated 2 stars, but it felt a lot more due to fantastic personnel and atmosphere.
It is just right opposite of the chamonix travel information board, so in the MIDDLE of the city ! We paid between 60 and 90 for the rooms, a bargain ! Personnel : multi languaged AND friendly
Location : in the middle of Chamonix
Parking : because it is in the middle of Chamonix, there is only room for 3 cars, not much...But 100m away, there is a parking place.

From Nice to Chamonix
by potokmo
Hello,
Me and my wife will fly to nice for 7 days.
We will arrive in the morning to Nice, take the rented car and want to make a circular trip to the french Alps and to be back in Nice on the fourth day in the evening.
We thought getting to Chamonix.
Do you think it is too far away? My wife cannot walk too much, so the most will be driving the car.
I would be grateful to receive an itinerary for the trip, and all the recomendations you have.
Thanks,
Moshe

Hi,
The distance would seem too great to be able to make anything of your day. Unless you start very early in the morning and do an overnight or two in Chamonix, it really is not worth it. Of course if you take the 4 days for the round-trip it is viable. Viamichelin.com gives 2 itineraries.
1) 530 kms, but for 7 hours driving time,
2) 684 kms but only 6h30 driving as most of this route is on motorways plus 120 euros extra in tolls as compared to 72 euros the other way

My husband and I and friends are planning on driving from Macon, France to Aosta,Italy via A40 thruough the mountains using Mont Blanc tunnel in mid October of 2010. We are wondering what the road conditions might be like during that time frame and how long a drive it is. Also, what are the tolls associated with such a drive. We are actually leaving straight from Paris and are hoping to make the trip in one day. Is this feasible, and how long would you anticipate it taking?
