Camping anyone?

What a magnificent position for a camping ground.

My daughter's brown face pears from between flowers with Mont Blanc in the background.
The camping ground at Chamonix-Mont Blanc offers one of the best camping ground vistas that we experienced.

Can you imagine having a good French wine over dinner looking out the camper's window at this?
Life can be tough.

Unique Quality: The camping ground has all the facilities of a 4 star camping place.
Extra charge for electricity and hot water like most places but very reasonably priced.

  • Opinion of Price: more expensive than average

Accommodation especially for snowboarders

The Lodge is run by an old friend of mine, Nick, and his girlfriend Martina. They are both snowboarding enthusiasts and have designed the Lodge with boarders in mind. It's very informal, SERIOUSLY comfortable, and, being in the centre of Chamonix, is perfectly located for access to all the best of the area. It's a lot nicer than staying in a hotel and offers more variety than being stuck in a resort. I would highly recommend it to anyone who's thinking of going snowboarding, whether they're a beginner (like me) or simply sick of going to places that only seem to cater for skiiers (like some of my companions).

Unique Quality: Where do I start? Because Nick and Martina are both boarders themselves, the advice they can offer on how to get the best out of the area (whatever your level of expertise) is second to none - from equipment hire to off-piste locations to facilities at all the local slopes to local bars and restaurants ... You simply couldn't get this level of knowledge from a generic hotel or resort. Because it's more personal than a hotel, they can also be far more flexible to your requirements (whether it's transport, special facilities or meals, etc). You also get access in the evenings to Nick's extensive video and DVD collection! The one thing I can't emphasise enough, though, is DO go for the catered option as they're both outstanding cooks - the Chamonix restaurants are great but the best food we had was definitely at the Lodge.
