Le Vercors, site of the french resistance and of course hit pretty hard by the germans during the last war. The French would hide in the Maquis (impenetrable woods) and get out of there to raid the germans. Of course, it all ended when the Germans parachuted loads of troups the annehialte the resistance.It mostly is a plateau of triangular shape, with the Rhone on the West side. Very easy to overlook.
