Hello Marilyn. I don't know about exchanging a house. I'm sure there are web sites for that. However, if you would like to rent an apartment or house in Grenoble, you will probably find something at the following web site. We've used them often in several countries and had great luck. Don't miss the Beaux Arts in Grenoble. It's one of our favorites. 8^)

Thanks for your answer, which is very helpful. I have tried though that limnk and though they have chalets in the mountains, nothing I can find in Grenoble itself... but it's a good starting point so merci bien!! :-)

Try the Grenoble Tourist Office too. They are usually quite helpful. Here's the link. http://www.grenoble-isere.info/english/grenoble-tourism.htm

Good luck.

Travel Tips for Grenoble

Place Grenette

by Klod5

C'est la Place centrale de la vieille ville historique. Au coeur de l'espace piéton et commerçant. De la Place Grenette partent les petites rues médiévales, redevenues commerçantes depuis qu'elles sont réservées exclusivement à la la circulation des piétons.

It is the central Place of the old historic city. To the heart of the space pedestrian and tradesman. Of the Place Grenette the small medieval streets leave, become again storekeepers since they are reserved to the the circulation of the pedestrians exclusively.

Tour Perret

by JLBG

The "Tour Perret" was built in Grenoble in 1925 as a landmark indicator at the entrance of what is now called the "parc Paul Mistral" for the "Exposition Internationale de la Houille Blanche" (International White Coal Fair that dealt with production, transport and distribution of electric power)
It is 80 meters high, octagonal, made in concrete rough of dismantling, with alternate levels of pillars and of confined. From the highest terrace, reached either by stairs or by a lift, the view on the surrounding mountains is completely panoramic. Sadly, it is not open for visits as it is now in poor condition (enlarge the photo).

Église Saint Jean

by JLBG

The "Église Saint-Jean" was built in 1963-65. The architect was Maurice Blanc with René Sarget, ingenier. The Haxo city wall, built in 1832-1840 was destroyed after 1945 and left room for the "Grand boulevards" (Boulevards Joseph Vallier, Foch and Joffre) which soon were lined with buildings of apartments. The bishop felt that this population (8-10,000 inhabitants) needed a church

The church is built on a circular plan. Eighteen pillars stand around a circular nave made of reinforced concrete, with a diameter of 37m, a surface of 1,000 m2 and that can contain 1,300 people.
Eighteen 17m high fir wood triangles connect the nave to a foot gang at 13 m of elevation. The awl that hold the skeleton is a piece of woo 60 cm diameter that act as a keystone. The first cover was made of copper tiles but they corroded fast, due to pollution and had to be replaced by asphalt shingle.
Adress : Boulevard Joseph-Vallier

Packing List

by happyleptic

Always travel light. The town is small, there are lots of buses and public transportation is fairly good. hiking shoes. Warm clothes in winter (damn cold), light clothes in summer (damn hot!) There are lots of wildfile in moutain, use a zoom to take good pics.
