A Castle-Like Place with Arrogant Service
I did not stay for the night in this hotel but had a meal and coffee there, had a look at one of the beautiful rooms - and got to know the snobistic attitude of the owner who gave you the feeling that he thought of himself being a more valuable member of society, defined by the fact that he owned this wonderful place for the rich and being rich himself.
So when I was there with several people to see some cycling pros during the Tour de France the guy permanently ran around us and controlled that we and/or our small backpacks did not touch the walls of his precious wallpaper... Probably you only stay there when you are appropriately dressed and a smile is the only thing you carry through the historic hallways, so you cannot scratch anything ;-)
The house itself is delightful: a 18th century manor house in Provence, with swimming pool, tennis court, conference facilities and a beautiful garden with lots of roses. It is located at the foot of the castle of Grignan. Although it is not a castle itself it is member of the Castle Hotel association of France and offers 4 star accommodation.
Rates (as 2007) from 190 Euro for a standard room to 380 Euro for a suite during the peak season, and from 152 to 304 Euro during the shoulder season. Breakfast 20 Euro...
