While touring France this summer, we had the opportunity to visit the historic village of Grignan in the south of France. We stayed in a small hotel of ten rooms called Le Clair de Plume. I have to say that this hotel was the highlight of our stay. Everything about our three days here was perfect. The young host, Jean luc, was a perfect gentleman and fluent in English. He recommended the best sites to visit during our stay and nothing was too much trouble for him. After staying at other hotels, where the reception was frosty at best, Le Clair de Plume was a real breath of fresh air. There are only ten rooms, but each is personally decorated with a perfect blend of antiques and modern amenities and a breathtaking view of the intimate garden. I cannot recommend this hotel enough, and we plan a future trip to France, when we will use Le Clair de Plume as our base.
Unique Quality: The young owner of the hotel is outstanding and treats every guest as a personal friend. Nothing was too much trouble for him during our stay.
There is no restaurant in the hotel even though there are plenty within walking distance. Personally, we liked this as there was a real tranquillity on the property in the evenings.
There is a tea room that has a menu as thick as a novel, offering a delicious choice of salads, pastries, teas and locally produced ice creams. I would personally recommend the caramel anglais and the the lavender honey ice cream.
