LES GETS
"Got there too early in the season"
The town was very quiet with little useable snow on the slopes. Serves us right for going for a cheap deal with the chalet!!!!!! Only two of us with 3 double bedrooms!! A lot of the bars and restaurants were not open fully. Had a reasonable meal in a pub / restaurant run by English people! Can't remember the name.
"Trip to Evian"
Drove the back roads way to Evian. No snow but a freezing gale blowing. Sheltered in a nice restaurant where locals ate. Good quality food at reasonable prices. Can't remember the name of it. On the way back, got pulled over by the French Border Police who showed an interest in my camera. "Deed ewe puchase ziss kemera in Eeengland?"
"Trip to Chamonix"
A bit more snow there. Went up on the train to the glacier. Amazing views. Stopped for lunch by the small railway station. A disgusting cheese fondue (couldn't finish it), a bottle of average wine and a small beer the best part of £60!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The miserable restaurant owner woman looked disgusted at us leaving all that tasteless cholesterol and stale bread. We should have avoided the place when we walked in and noticed there was no one else in it.
