Lyon City Card

by elise_crash

A few questions about the card:

1. How much is the card if you buy it when you get in the city, as opposed to before hand online? The website says there is an online discount.

2. The card says you get unlimited free use of public transportation. Does this include funiculars and/or velo'v bicycles?

3. Has anybody used this card to take a free river cruise? If so, how long was the cruise? Did you enjoy it? Can you also take nighttime cruises, or only those during the day? And, can you use the card to take more than one free cruise (like you can do with the museums)?

4. If you buy as a student online, do you have to prove you are a student when you turn in your confirmation at the tavel bureau? If so, will a student ID from a US school work? Or, do you need to have an International Student ID?

Thank you so much for any help you can offer!

Happy travels!

Lisa

Hi Lisa,
about velo'v , the first 30 minutes are always free; so, it's very easy to jump from one free bicycle to another! you can buy a short use card for as low as 1 euro to avoid the deposit requested if you are usijng a normal credit card

Despite its conservative image, Lyon has quite a wealth of liberal party-animals.
The Lyonnais know how to groove to hip-hop, bash to punk, prance in gay clubs, flow to melodramatic goth tunes, trance to techno or simply bop to some French songs. No joking..I've tried them all!

Go to ROAD 66. (Yes, ROAD 66!) It's a bar and has a sizeable dance floor.

Basilique Notre-Dame de Fourvière

by polardabar

This beautiful church sits at the top of the Fourvière Hill. It was built in the 19th century, which makes it pretty modern among French churches.

This church is often called the upside-down elephant 'coz of its 4 octagonal towers.

You can either walk up there or take the funicular which goes from Vieux Lyon.

This photo was taken from downtown Lyon.

Roman ruins

by myrtle

After having already visited Rome I wasn't that interested in seeing more Roman ruins, but my friend was. We went through the museum near Notre Dame de Fourvi?re. They have quite a collection of items found in this area that date back to Roman times. It was really interesting.

A Well Sited City At The Center of France

"Walk Around the Presqu'Ile"

Our first views of Lyon were of the Place des Jacobins only two short streets from our hotel , the Grand Hotel Concorde. We were headed toward the walking bridge over the Saone River and had reached the Dominicans' fountain. Across the river on the hill on the far side sat the Primatiale St. Jean on the west at the beginning of the Old Town. To the North was the Croix-Rousse where the central part of the city widens between the two rivers.
