Places to go in Lyon.

by highliner_35

Hi All,

I'll be in Lyon starting the 21st and I'll stay there for the weekend (until the 24th).
Can anybody suggest me what to do and where to go at the weekend especially?
I would reallp appreciate any advice.

I'll have a car.

Thanks a lot...

They have a good metro system. The Resistance Museum is fascinating. The Roman Ruins above Lyon are cool to visit. Parc du Tete (something like that) has many interesting displays if you like plants. I was only in Lyon for a few days, but the thing I remember most is the incredible food.... Karl

for sure plenty more to do!! old Lyon, close to the Saone river bank (right bank), part of Unesco World Heritage; the big park is Parc de la Tête d'Or (Golden Head), also do not forget to pay a visit to the Musée St Pierre (second biggest Museum in France after le Louvre), close to City Hall; climb to the 2 hills of Fourviere to enjoy a breathtaking view over the city, and to the Croix Rousse Hill, famous for the silk industry. Also discover by yourself the famous painted walls (approx 40 walls around the city); Tourism Office is located on Place Bellecour, right in the city center.
If you still have time, take your car and drive to Perouges, a smart medieval village, 35 km away from Lyon (direction Geneva, exit at Meximieux, then follow signs) and also to the north of Lyon, to the charming villages of the "Pierres Dorées", south of Beaujolais.
this is more than your time allows!! ;-)
hope you will enjoy my city
feel free to contact me if you need more info
cheers

Lyon Public Transportation

by iNorv9

With 4 metro lines, 2 funiculars trains, 2 tramway lines and more than 100 bus lines, public transportation is the most efficient and cheapest way to get around Lyon. Check out the Office of Tourism at Place Bellecour, where you can get a helpful map with all the details.

Place des terraux

by Erkmen

Place des terraux is almost in the center of Lyon. The big square has a very atmosphere with the surrounding buildings and the special one is the Hotel De Ville.. Dont be confused like me, Hotel de ville is the City Hall .:)

One interesting part of the square is the small fountains coming from the ground, arranged symmetrically and you can watch the water dancing. They are lit up at nights and the scene is really nice.

I had a nice beer on the cafe at the left front where you see in the picture and on a friday night the road adjacent to the cafee was very crowded and many youngs were dancing in the pubs behind the square..

Dinner cruise

by rcsparty

Lyon has two rivers running through the city. If you have a free afternoon, walking along the river is a wonderful way to relax and spend a few hours. Another great way to enjoy the river and its views, is taking a dinner cruise. The food and wine were fantastic, and the views of the city from the river were beautiful as the city was lighting up in the evening.

"6-10april Easter holidays in Lyon"

we went to Lyon on Easter holidays.I read from a book saying that forget abut sight seeing and go for food.Lyon is famous for gastronomy.we travel from London ,transit in Frankfurt and reach Lyon at 3.00pm.The 1st day was a tiring day. After check in Ibis Hotel,we walked to Rhone river, the shopping street Victor Hugo &,Placa Bellecour,Rue De Republique,Rue Mercille.after a tiring travelling day,we had dinner at Hippopatamus restaurant and enjoy a riverside view.

On2nd day,we enjoy our breakfast at Ibis hotel and headed towards Vieux Lyon and Fourviere Hills. The Vieux Lyon is UNESCO world heritage and worth to strolled along every cobbled street.Looked around the street for stairs and gates where there are some surprising doorways,staircase,path...
Take a look at Cathédrale St-Jean at Vieux Lyon and it will be nice if you have a chance to looks inside when the sun pass thru the stained glass window. The colourful light on the columns resulted by the sunlight is great.
Walked up to the top of the Fourviere Hills and you will enjoy the beautiful scenery ,plants and flowers, city view and a great view on Basilique Notre Dame de Fourviere .The exterior of Basilique Notre Dame de Fourviere is very oustanding when view along the path to the Basilique Notre Dame de Fourviere .The interior are decorated with mosaics, stained glass windows and marbles.
