Luxury in Vieux Lyon
I must admit to sleeping around in my favorite cities! :-) Blame it on wanting to experience different locations, different views and different atmospheres. Cour Des Loges is at the upper end of my sleeping around budget.
We stayed here on a 3 day stay in Lyon and the experience was very nice. Step into the lobby and you know you're dealing with luxury. The air temperature alone is a giveaway: cool and fresh with the sound of fountains and subtle music.
Our room was lovely. The bathroom was great with a large jacuzi tub and black marble everything. Cable TV with CNN and BBC gave us our first English in a couple of weeks.
The hotel has concierge service and a restaurant and bar. Also there is a (small) in door pool. When we tried to use it there was a naked couple doing kind of private things so we left.
The hotel has private valet parking and your car is whisked away into a "cave". Finding the hotel by car was pretty tricky. Watch for signs on the sides of buildings. Poles that block the alley/streets of Vieux Lyon do go up and down to let you go by if you have access.
Unique Quality: My favorite thing about this hotel (besides the location) was the bar. Over our stay we got to know the bartender and the house champagne quite well. I learned some great jazz there too.

World's best concierge?
The Cour Des Loges is one of the finest hotel's I've ever stayed in. The entire hotel is well-finished, with a keen eye to detail. The breakfast is first-class, and in the morning the lobby area is bathed in sunlight, making it an all-round feel-good experience.
In addition, the concierge at this hotel is amazing! Always immaculately dressed, unfailingly polite, he sets the gold class standard for service anywhere in the world. I remember having about 2-3 hours to spare before having to take the taxi to the airport and he automatically came by (I having given my flight details to the hotel) with a little map of the surround areas, and introduced me to some of his favourite places to explore.
Finally, this hotel is located in a part of town which is generally not accessibly by car (taxis are still allowed in though). This makes the hotel very quiet at night.
Unique Quality: The rooms are very modern in design, but be advised, are somewhat small. Budget allowing, please arrange for one of the pricer rooms for the space if nothing else.

Charming Hotel in Vieux Lyon
Cour des Loges is a lovely hotel recently (2000) created out of four restored Renaissance buildings in Vieux Lyon. The 62 rooms are in different sizes and shapes built around a gorgeous interior courtyard. In addition to the unique architecture, the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. It all adds up to a special, memorable experience.
Unique Quality: Lovingly restored Renaissance buildings. The decoration in the public areas and the rooms is out of the ordinary.
