More about Hotel La Residence Lyon
Great little hotel with great location
Hotel La Residence, Lyon
Date of stay : October 17th - 20th(3 nites)
Lyon was the last stop of a 4 week self drive trip from Rennes to Lyon via Loire Valley, Central Massif, Avignon, Annecy. In all cases we had identified accommodation o/s the main centres but in this case, like Paris, we needed accommodation in town centre as we would no longer have the car.
Therefore, requirements were min. 3 star, centrally located, not large(did not want tour groups or bus groups staying there), seemed reasonably priced(Aussie exchange is horrible against Euro), had a choice of room types and breakfast included.
Studied internet and identified La Residence as the one that possibly met requirements. From Australia we had no idea about Lyon and had to read maps on the internet to identify locations of hotels. Also internet provides the information and photos but again you only see on a screen and are still not sure.
Great. The internet presented a correct picture.
Right in a main shopping mall with easy access to other shops, tourist information, stop and go bus tours and lots of local restaurants in the back streets(Lyon is extremely safe at nite).
Easy access to supermarkets and a laundrette just around the corner.(Laundrettes were not always convenient in the major towns close to where we stayed in France).
Easy from Gare de Pare Dieu(drop off car and back there for train to Italy) and only $E8.00.
Building is quite inconspicious in the mall but location allows taxis to drop you off right at the door even when the mall is closed to traffic.
There are some major renovations occurring. When we arrived all new flat screen tvs being installed, bathrooms had modern fittings, our room was recently painted.
Great staff. Very efficient and simple reception process. Seemed to take no time for check in.
Staff in charge of breakfast area are also efficient and unobtrusive.
Hotel security :
Was extremely good but not overly concerned as Lyon appeared quite safe in the area of the hotel.
Was clean, well maintained, comfortable. It was at the front of the building on the corner and exposed to the mall. Noise was not an issue for either of us. Bathroom and bedroom were quite large by European standards. Room servicing staff were also efficiant and unobstrusive.
Good continental breakfast provided. There was also scrambled eggs abd bacon available for the USA based visitors who were many. It appears many of them are asspociated with WHO who use the hotel.
Area for eating b/fast not the greatest. Very business like looking but we are in a big city with business folks.
Lyon is a great city to visit and the food is great and the cathedral is amazing.
Would stay at the hotel again as it is comfortable, quiet, well located and great value for money.
Good location and hotel, friendly staff
Good location on Lyon's Presqu'ile - easy walk to its attractions and to old city. Public garage with 24 hours attended parking is nearby. Hotel is on a pedestrian zone - very safe feeling day and night, and quiet for sleeping.
Staff was friendly, and seemed to know who their guests were. They did seem a little careless with room keys, which were out where anyone could take one.
Free PC with internet in lobby.
Breakfast was not outstanding, but there was plenty of food and variety, and it beat anything we found within a short walk.
Lyon is a delightful city - old city restaurants and buildings, art museum, fountains, and newer restaurants on Presqu'ile.
Great value, super location, comfortable stay
We stayed at la Residence for three nights 7-9 Aug 06. We were 3 couples on a 4 week vacation through England, France and Italy. This hotel was great, staff very helpful, rooms comfortable, bkfst OK, super location. We had a wonderful visit in Lyon and walked everywhere - even from the hotel a short distance to the TGV station for our trip to Paris. Complimentary internet access in the lobby was a welcome feature. Can't beat this place for the price.
As good as we'd hoped......
Took a friend to Lyon for 3/4 days - I lived there for 4/5 years from 1990 - first time I'd stayed in a hotel in the town, and wanted to give her the flavour of a French hotel rather than a modern chain.Hotel in an excellent position, right in the town centre in a pedestrian street, and absolutely no disturbance at all.
Rooms on the small side, but very clean, comfortable, with fridge, safe, hairdrier (my friend was pleased!), and air-conditioning (wonderful!).Good breakfast. Only one lift, but didn't cause problems. Hotel was full, but didn't seem overcrowded. Reception extremely pleasant and efficient. All in all, very good value for money.
Convenient and Comfortable
Hotel La Residence has several things going for it:
1. Location could not be better. It's very central and within easy walking distance of most of the important tourist destinations (e.g. Vieux Lyon).
2. Quiet street. The street below is pedestrianized, so is relatively quiet.
3. Comfortable rooms. The rooms are a good size. They're not pretty or quaint, but they do the job.
4. Good price. We paid 72 Euro a night for our room.
5. Very welcoming, helpful and kind staff.
The only fault with the room is that it had just been repainted so smelled quite strongly of paint.
For the price, I recommend it without hesitation.
Decent but nothing special
We stayed at La Residence Saturday and Sunday nights during a local festival, so it was very crowded on the Saturday night. We arrived mid-afternoon and were given a dark room that smelled like smoke, so we asked for a different one. Because we were early, we were able to change, and the second room was small but pleasant, the bed good. There were absolutely no drawers in the room, however. The location is good but there is considerable street noise. Staff was pleasant and helpful. Breakfast (extra) was mediocre.
My wife and I stayed at this hotel for one night. The hotel is wonderful for the price we paid and what it offered. The hotel is located right in the heart of the main town just steps away from the old town. The room was very spacious compared to the last hotel we stayed at in Paris the night before. The bathroom was also big and appeared to have been recently renovated. The room had a flat screen TV and in room radio. The breakfast offered was splendid and we sat overlooking the main walkway through town. Overall, we loved the city and the young people that reside there. We ate at great restaurants and I recommend if you go to visit the old town and its fine restaurants. The hotel staff was very friendly and they spoke fluent English. The hotel is centered in an area full of small shops. It is within walking distance of everything to do in Lyon. I strongly recommend this hotel.
Great Location, Excellent Value!
Myself and 4 friends have just returned from a 4 night trip to France. We stayed in "La Residence" on the first and last night
of our trip.We had a triple room and a double room.
The triple room had a double bed and twin beds and some lovely old features -
a huge marble fireplace and a big gilt mirror. The double room was more modern (no fireplace) and had a safe.
The bathrooms were spacious and well decorated with shower and bath and hairdryer. Each room had a flat screen TV and mini-bar. The breakfast was very good value @ 6 euro 50 and there was lots of variety. The hotel is ideally situated for shopping and
sightseeing and within walking distance of Lyon Gare Perrache.
In general we found the reception staff helpful however he failed to mention that there was a train strike when we were leaving after the first night, even though we had asked for directions to the train station. After our second night there we booked a taxi to take us to the airport and were told by the concierge that it would
cost 40 euro ( we paid 50 euro coming from the airport). However when we got to the airport the fare was 75 euro. I queried this with the driver and was told it was because it was
Armistice Day (11/11th) a Public Holiday in France I think ,we had to pay the night rate - something to be aware of.
We would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone and would
definitely stay there again.
This hotel is on a pedestrian street about 10 min walk from Perrache station. It was clean, large, and the bathroom was great.....and cheap. If the windows are open it is a bit noisy in the morn, but the windows are double glazed. Stay here if coming to Lyon on a budget!
