The Metropole Concorde, situated on the banks of the Saone, is more conference centre/business hotel than travellers hotel in my opinion. During our stay, it was mostly suits surrounding us in the elevators, hanging out in the lobby lounge and cackling down in groups of four from the open mezzanine. The place has a spa, massive pool, tennis courts, gardens but who needs this when you're exploring France's second city?
The rooms are sizable though in need of refurbishing. The main floor has been renovated and the grounds are undergoing some nice changes. I think it will be a while until they get to the guest rooms. Still, the rooms were clean and spacious. Since the hotel is a little further out it's not exactly the best location for walking to and from the city after a long day. I've read from several places it's "only five minutes from the city centre" but don't believe the hype. Perhaps five minutes as the crow flies but certainly not having to drive through all the twists and traffic of Lyonnais streets.
The staff was great. Very helpful and always pleasant. And the restaurant...Brasserie Lyon Plage was terrific. At first we thought it might have been a little cheesy based on the life-preserver logo and fish netting fixed to the wall. But both Tracey and I thoroughly enjoyed our meals even if it took us twenty minutes to decipher the menu. The prix fixe choices were excellent. Once again, the staff was darling. Always ready to help; attentive but never invasive.
