4 days in lyon

by singimorning

Hi guys,

I am planning to go to Lyon for a long weekend in June and am a bit lost about lodging. Does anybody know any nice affordable hostel.

Also, I will certainly get a guide book of that area, however, could you recommend any town close to Lyon? I would like to explore all the countryside rather than stay in the city and, most of all, I would like to try wines as I am a big fan of the wine from that area.

Thanks in advance

Hi Thanks for your answer,

I am planning to rent a car in the airport and then travel from there. As for accommodation, anything cheap would do for me. I would rather go to bed & breakfast or hostels as hotels seem a bit expensive for me (I have a very tigh budget as I am going to Brazil in a few months).

What would you recommend in that area? Any nice town? (I am sure there musty be plenty) Could you give me some tips about places to see??

Thanks in advance

Travel Tips for Lyon

Lyon, city of Guignol

by Bigjones

Guignol was created by an inhabitant of Lyon, Laurent Mourguet. He was married, had ten children and was working as a silk weaver. But when there was no more work for silk weavers, he became poorer and decided to be a tooth puller. But the people were very afraid of the pincers and didn't dare to approach him. So he had the idea to create a puppet looking like himself to comfort people a bit. He called it Guignol. And it worked : the people stopped to listen to his stories and laughed and when he suggested to pull out their teeth, the fear of pincers disappeared. Guignol was loved by the people because it let them forget all the trouble. At the end, Laurent abandoned its dentist job to create in Lyon a theater to tell the adventures of Guignol.

Nice and cheap!

by cissou7 about Le jardin de Berthe

Very nice room in a former cave with arcades and contemporary paintings. A large choice of salads and they cook very nicely the "Ravioles" a pasta which is a specialty from Lyon. The only problem: it is often full! come early or make a reservation!
Best website to have good tips about Lyon's best place to have a drink, a lunch or fun! Made by students from my school: they tested everything! When they found it fantastic they give it the best rate: "RPPP" (Recommandé Par le Petit Paumé!) I like their 13€ menu: raviole + big and original salad + good dessert!

Indeed a must-see

Very nice place, I loved it most in Lyon.
They have a zoo that is very clever arranged, you have the feeling that animals are almost free. (in fact some birds are free)

You can rent a boat and "sail" on the lake;
I used to go skating there. The rollers are really very good, it's a pleasure to admire them.
"La roserie" is greatfull, especially in may.
There are also some nice places to eat.

Museum of Gallo-Roman Civilisation

by keeweechic

The Museum of Gallo-Roman Civilization was establish in 1975 although its early conception began back in 1957. It was then that a large part of the Gallo-Roman collection which had been kept at Palais Saint Pierre (Fine Arts Museum) was brought to a small on-site building of the antique theatres of Fourviere. From there a new home was built for the collection amongst the historic theatres of the archeological park. The museum displays coins and weapons as well as artwork and artefacts which replicate the roman past of Lyon.

Tale of Two Rivers

by huwhit

Lyon is a real French city - not a tourist mecca.

Trams roll through the pleasant streets, peak hour traffic bustles, Interpol workers pass by. It is a city in operation - with two cities, a great skyline, and some great foreshores along the river.
