More about Hotel de la Cite Concorde Lyon

beautiful room!

by rwlittle about Grand Concorde Lyon

We stayed here one night for our visit to Lyon. The staff was very helpful, and held our bags for us after we had checked out, allowing us more time to see the sights of Lyon. The room was beautiful, my fiancee found it very romantic. We payed only a little more or this room than we had in Paris, and got an elegantly designed and spacious room. The location is in the town core, allowing us to walk to most sights of interest. I highly recommend this hotel.

We booked through the Utell website, www.utell.com.

Re: day trips

First of all there is plenty to keep you occupied im Lyon!

But why not get a map - look up places that seem close enough for you to travel to in a day ( how will you travel - car, train? and how long do you want to be away from your base in Lyon?)

To work out itineraries, driving times and places of interest look at
www.viamichelin.com

If you like the sound of any particular destination do come back for more informatiom. I liked Pérouges and lots of the smaller villages to the west.

We love Lac Annecy. If you get a direct train, it's a little under 2 hours. You could spend the day there and then train back to Lyon. The lake is lovely and the Old Town is great fun. For obvious reasons, our favorite restaurant is Beau Soleil in the center of town on the river.

Enjoy your trip.

Travel Tips for Lyon

Abbey d'Ainay

by aquatic

This abbey was built in the beginning of the 12th century on the site of the Carolingian abbey of 9th century. The changes were made from 13th to 19th centuries. But it still looks as something historically mysterious.
It is close to the museum of decorative arts. You won’t find much people here. But it worth a visit…

Please try at least once 'Aux Trois Maries', little bit expensive, but delightful... (40-50 € per person aprox.)
Medium budget will encounter wonderful menus in any restaurant in 'Place Saint Jean' besides nice atmosphere in summer. Desserts are wonderful in Lyon, don´t forget to taste such sweet 'fromage blanc avec la creme'.

Views of Lyon

The views of Lyon are stunning from Fourviere Hill, especially around the Basilica. There is a restaurant right next to the basilica, which has a glass wall facing the city. Eating dinner and watching the lights of Lyon slowly come on during the evening is a worth while experience and makes for a very romantic dinner.

Vieux Lyon (Old Lyon) The name itself evokes images of rich settings and it does offer them. This quarter of Lyon is where visitors will enjoy the stroll along the cobblestone pedestrian walkways. Shops and restaurants mix well with residents, and the quaintness enraptures you.

See first picture. More to come in travelogue...
Lyon is better known for its 'traboules' - narrow passageways which served many purposes in the past (e.g. carrying silk around) Don't stay on the main path... venture around!
