b1bob's Lyon restaurant tip
by b1bob about Brioche Doree
They have all manner of baked goods, but they also have savoury food for a light lunch such as quiche and sandwiches. I had Quiche Lorraine because I don't trust most restaurants to make sandwiches the way I want them. The quiche was great, but Brioche Dorée is a huge chain.
St-Nizier Church
by keeweechic
Built in the 15th century the St-Nizier Church is easily recognisable by its two spires, one covered in tiles and the other in stone. Quite a mix, it has a Gothic north spire, a Renaissance main porch and a 19th century Neo-Gothic south spire.
From 1320 onwards the centre of local political power was established here in a chapel next to Saint-Nizier whose great bell rang every night when the city gates were closed.
Bartholdi Fountain
by rcsparty
The Batholdi Fountain is one of the highlights of this square. The sculptor of the fountain also created the Statue of Liberty. The fountain has a tremdous amount of detail and you can almost feel the four horses, which represent four rivers racing for the ocean, pulling the chariot forward. The fountain is very reminiscent of those you see in Rome, both Trevi and the one in Piazza Navona.
A Week in Lyon
by Roadquill
"Deer Me!"
We travel thousands of miles, and my kids spend hours with the deer in Parc de la Tete d'Or. We went there for the soccer, Confederation Cup, to support our National Team when they played Cameron, Turkey and Brazil. The food was marvelous. The days were spent eating, at the park, shopping and several museums. The Centre d'Histoire de la Resistance et de la Deportation was very moving. Especially when you see the Place Bellecour now and in the photographs from the Centre. We had wonderful meals at La Splendide and Bocuse's L'est.
"Walking And Checking Out the Town"
Lyon has many wonderful buildings and sites. After we checked out the Gallo-Roman Theatres (which are still used) we went to the Place des Terreaux.
"Parc Tete d'Or"
What a great park! In addition to enjoying the outside space, there was this great cactus arboreum that had the most amazing cactii
