What is best station to use for train to Paris

Re: Lyon-Paris

by mccalpin

It looks like the TGV starts in Lyon at Lyon-Perrache (don't know if it actually originated elsewhere), stops at Lyon Part Dieu for a few minutes, then after only one more stop, arrives at (what else?) Paris Lyon station...

Part-Dieu is a better bet. as trains from the south (Marseille, Montpellier etc) stop here and not at Perrache. On the other hand, all trains originating in Perrache also stop at Part-Dieu. Check schedules on www.bahn.de .

Travel Tips for Lyon

Croix-Rousse district

by Klod5

SNCF

by barryg23

As we were interrailing we took the SNCF train from Dijon. There is also a high speed TGV link from Gare De L'Est in Paris, which takes about 3 hours. It was quite a long journey from Dijon to Lyon and we spent the journey trying to improve my French, much to the amusement of everyone in the carriage. (You have got to hear me doing a French 'r' sound and the look of horror it gives to all the French people!)

The most important museum after Louvre in France

by aquatic

It is the largest after Louvre museum in France. The collection is very impressive. Along with expected paintings and sculptures you will find here a room with paintings of Lyon masters of floral painting. If you are familiar with Dutch and Flemish painting techniques you will recognize it in Lyon masters’ works and probably will be surprised by their skills.
Allow several hours for this museum visit. Include time for the Terreaux Square before or after your visit. There is a café on the terrace of the museum. If the weather is nice, make a brake and have some coffee over there.

Bellecour Square

by keeweechic

Bellecour Square is one of Europe's famous public squares. It's marked by a majestic statue of Louis XIV on horseback and is slap bang in the middle of the main shopping and entertainment district. You can get a good view of it from Fourvière Hill .
