I stayed in the student housing for my exchange time while in Lyon. Not a whole lot of room to move as I had a french roomate. Tiny beds, tiny dresser, and a tiny bathroom. The showers were out in the hallway, which was always an adventure!
Tiny tiny tiny! Great views of the parking lot!
We stayed here one night for our visit to Lyon. The staff was very helpful, and held our bags for us after we had checked out, allowing us more time to see the sights of Lyon. The room was beautiful, my fiancee found it very romantic. We payed only a little more or this room than we had in Paris, and got an elegantly designed and spacious room. The location is in the town core, allowing us to walk to most sights of interest. I highly recommend this hotel.
We booked through the Utell website, www.utell.com.
We stayed in a very friendly youth hostel on La Montee de Chemin Neuf. Rates were quite good, breakfast was nice and there was a fun crowd of people staying there. It's in a central location (not often the case with hostels in France) quite near the main railway station and overlooks the city.
Mine of course...
But I can recommand you nice hotels for every budget and youth hostels.

Auberge de Jeunesse du Vieux - perched on top of the hill on the outerskirts of Vieux Lyon (the old city). The MOST amazing views to rival any 5 star hotel! Facilities are clean and modern as far as hostels go. They have kitchen facilities and friendly staff. A warning - it is quite a big hike from the bottom of the hill, it is a certainty that you'll be gasping for air by the time you have reached the hostel with a backpack on your back! but was well worth it. Recommended as far as hostel style accomodation goes.
80FF/night dorm room
Here's the view from our hotel room, looking down the street. A couple doors down is a bakery whose aromas of baking bread enticed us from our bedroom windows.
We just drove up to this little bed & breakfast, Le Hotel Beaulieu and asked if they had a room for 3 ladies. In fact, they did -- and this was it! It was a huge room, and quite comfortable. The hotel was near what seemed to be an old resort area, that is now closed and uninhabited. We never did get the story on that...
I have slept in a little farm together with some friends far away from everything.
10.000bf per week for seven persons.
is 166.67 pounds(english)
or 1666.67 francs français
You can do what you want, play music as loud as you can, dress like you want to, walk around in on the fields that are all yours.
The feeling of freedom, especially if you come from the big city.
camping in lyon is a bad idea...you can do it but you won t get to be close to the city and thats a shame. But we have 2 youth hostels one is a bit far from everything it s not in lyon it s in venissieux but the other one is next to my school in a very nice place at st jean lyon e mail me for the address if you re interested i have it somewhere
as for the hotels we have many reasonnable price hotels all over the city but if you want to travel luxurously you may have trouble finding a fancy hotel you ll want to make reservations a long time in advance
The youth hostel is brand new and has a nice view on the city.
~70-80 FF (10-12 US$) per night with breakfast.
Safe, modern, friendly, cheap considering how nice it is.
