croix-rousse GUEST HOUSE

by zitaf

We, 4 of us, will be in Lyon for 3 days. we are loking for a Guest house or reasonable hotel. We will travel from Lyon to Le Puy, then back to Paris by train.

Are you travelling by train from Lyon to Le Puy? That is such a lovely trip! A slow train, meandering through the landscape.

Many years ago we stayed at a hotel in Lyon and I burned my foot badly in the bathwater. We promptly moved to the Best Western hotel which was excellent.

Don't miss Brasserie Georges for dinner!

go up to the cathedral and enjoy the beautiful scene. (do not walk up, search for public transport) the girl working in the supermarket was really beautiful. i wanted to wait till she leaves her work but i had to discover the city.

Roman aqueducts

by Yso

Lyon was a roman city, and in te town itself you have many well known roman remains (the amphiteatre etc), but out of the centre of the city you can visit the remains of the Roman Aqueduct which was built in order to bring water to Lyon from the Pilat area. The Aqueduct was very long and large parts of it remain. It is mostly out of the bustle of the city centre and make for a good walk. Get a bus to Chaponost or Beaunant (about 10 km from the centre on the went of Lyon), the Aqueducts are clearly visible.

Genuine Tapas

by Yso about Tapas de la Rue

Excellent Tapas in a fun environment.

Good choice of tapas written up on the black board, also main dishes available and a house selection of tapas for 10$ which lets you try a bit of everything.
Not the cheapest place to eat in town, but not too expensive either : you'll eat well and drink lots of wine or Sangria for about $20 per person. I particularly liked the aubergine (eggplant) paté with cream of red peppers (capsicums). Also very good was the Soubressada, the carrots with Cumin were delicious and the spicy chick peas were pretty good too. They also have the standard selection of mussles, chorizo and tortilla.

Old Town Lyon

by b1bob

The Lyon cathedral and the park are good places for first-timers to go. I had been 11 years before this, and, unless you miss something the first time, you won't need to see it again. On the other hand, the old part of Lyon- the shops and narrow streets- is good to see the second time. For shopping, you can't beat Lyon Part-Dieu and the suburb of Venissieux.

Visit the Musuem of fabrics and Musuem of Decorative
arts
I love this musuem!! It's really fantastic! We can find out the history of
weaving and the use of textiles for decorative purposes. In the museum you can
find many costumes of the different centuries until those of today. And also, in
the musuem of decorative arts, you can see the furniture used by the people of
the olden days. It's historically rich!
