Puppet Theatre
The Puppet theatre in Lyon is something to be enjoyed during the summer months at the Theatre Guignol. There are well known characters performing such as Punch and Judy or otherwise known in France as 'Guignol' and 'Madelon' .

Most French people would find themselves in Lyon for business rather than for recreation: it's a get-up-and-go place, not a lie-back-and-rest one. You probably wouldn't plan a two-week stay – as you might in Provence's cities – but Lyon certainly has its charms. Foremost among these is gastronomy; there are more restaurants per Gothic and Renaissance square metre of the old town than anywhere else on earth, and the city could form a football team with its superstars of the international chef circuit. While the textile museum is the second famous reason for stopping here, Lyon's nightlife, cinema and theatre (including the famous Lyonnais puppets), its antique markets, music and other cultural festivities might tempt you to stay at least a few days. In addition it has been long established as the home of major biennial festivals of art and fashion.
Lyon is organized into arrondissements, of which there are nine. A visit to Lyon will necessarily take you into the Presqu'île (1er and 2e arrondissements), the area between the Rivers Saône and Rhône, and you're likely to spend some time in Vieux-Lyon (5e) on the west bank of the Saône, as well as the east bank of the Rhône (3e), including the modern development known as La Part-Dieu.

Very laid back and pleasant place in Lyon's 1st Arrondissement. Near the Jardin des Plantes. I had a very good dish of chicken (yassa I think it was called) and really enjoyed the warm welcome and smiles!
Lyon is the food Capital of France, and therefore probably of the world. Not going to a 'bouchon' while there is a crime!
Typical restaurants known as 'bouchons'.
Loads of pig specialties. The cheeses (St Felicien and St Marcellin) rank among the best. Beaujolais wine has been deemed 'the third river of the city'.
FOURVIÈRE This is where you will find you roman ruins as well as the Basilica, a neo-gothic church. On top of the Fourvière hill is where you can see Lyon shrink to 180 degree view.
Picture below is Fourvière Basilica perched up on the hill.
Lyon is not only the food capital of France, a feat in itself, but offers the travveller such as myself the opportunity to employ English cultures to my advantage. Any trip on a shoestring is a constant battle of counting the pennies, but Lyon gave a little surprise that I'm in danger of overemphasising. The city is very picturesque, the two rivers converging to make a fashionable peninsular in the centre of the town, but it is when you attack the cafes, bistros and bars of Lyon that the fun really starts. I suggest Bar d'universitie on the left bank of the Rhone. Sitting outside one has a glorious view over the river towards Fouviere and the prices are lower than the above average Lyon norm. Despite the name the establishment is not full of alcopop swigging students, but the crowd is young. What I liked best was that me and a friend sat on the pavement for three hours drinking half litres at the traditional English pace, talking of the delights of France- cheese, art and pouting girls. When we came to leave the barman was so taken by our drinking habits and our polite ignorance of the French language that he gave us free drinks!
This would NEVER happen at home.
