Bus Service from Lyon Airport

by seen444

My departure flight from Lyon (LYS) will leave at 6:50 am. The earliest Satobus arrives the airport at 5:35. Not sure if this will give me enough time to check in. Do I have another option in term of transportation?

Re: Bus Service from Lyon Airport

by puerto_lover

If it was me, I would expect the first bus to serve the first flights of the day which surely must be yours and just take the bus. I really cannot imagine that the airport management could be so stupid as to not allow for this in their planning. After all the only other form of getting to this airport from the major city of Lyon is by taxi, apparently !

Check-in usually closes 40 minutes before departure. Whether you consider that you will have enough time depends on whether you want to check in early for a budget flight so that you are in the first boarding group (so you can choose your seat) or perhaps are flying with a no-budget carrier and will be assigned seats at check-in.

If you are not bothered about this, then I think the bus will arrive in plenty of time. If you are bothered, and want to get there earlier, then you will need to take a taxi.

Lyon Airport is quite small and check-in + controls are fast. I'm used to be 60-80 minutes in advance and that's enough. Satobus are defined according to, in theory. Some warnings:
- low cost compagnies, if check-in is not done in advance (potential long queue)
- intercontinental flights where most of the time, you are requested to be 2 hours or 1.5 hours in advance
Check on your flight ticket, assuming you have a "grace period".

Potential others options for transportation, it depends where you are coming from (train, other bus)

I have e-ticket and I am supposed to be able to print out my boarding pass and be at the boarding gate 1 hour before flight, yet I will need to check in my luggage. I think the time given is kind of tight. Probably need to get a taxi. Thanks for the input everyone

Yes......even with an e-ticket it would be a good idea to be there earlier, especially as you have to check luggage..

What date are you going to the airport? My husband and I are having the same problem. Our flight leaves at 6:20 am.

hi everybody,
first bus is due to arrive, daily, at Saint Exupery airport at 5.35am
the only stop is between terminals 1 and 2, but anyhow, expect another 5 minutes walk to reach your respective counters.
Most of airlines serving LYS allow home printed boarding passes; this is a must if your schedule is tight, and calculate with another 10 to 15 minutes to clear the security check (usually quite slow in the early morning, as only few tracks are open)
expect 50 euros for a taxi, depending on where from you will leave.
Enjoy your stay!

Travel around.
It is wrong to say of me that I have been to Lyon.
I was there, but I was also on a great number of other places, like Liernolles, Vichy, Lapallisse, Moulins!!,Le Donjon, Alpe d'huez,... The people who are very kind.
The old and very sympathetic houses.
The fields and the sun upon the snow on the horizon.

Avignon

by keeweechic

Avignon is now the capital of the department of Vaucluse and was one of the principal cities of the Cavares at the time of the Roman invasion. Central Avignon is enclosed by medieval walls, built by one of the nine popes who based themselves here throughout most of the fourteenth century, away from the anarchic feuding and rival popes of Rome.

A typical Bouchon

by Yso about Les Lyonnais Bouchon

Traditional Lyonnais restaurants are called Bouchon. (It means cork as in bottle of wine).

This one is particularly good value as the menu in the evening is at 19 Euros and there is a fantastic choice of starters and main courses which you can mix and match.

RESERVATIONS OBLIGATORY - it's very popular I LOVE tablier de Sapeur. The Andouillette is also excellent but if you're feeling less adventurous you can go for the Salmon or the duck!

If you have ONLY ONE DAY to spend in Lyon ...

by Natrix

- Go to the tourist office at Place Bellecour or any TCL (public transport) office and grab a free map, so you won't get lost.
- Take a walk from place Bellecour to Celestins theatre and Place des Jacobins, stroll along Rue Mercière till you reach Place des Terreaux and the Hotel de Ville. Then take the cable car (metro) to the Croix Rousse hill for a phantastic panoramic view. If it's still before lunchtime, take a chance to visit the market. Take the stairway to get back to Place des Terreaux.
- Cross the Saône river to get to Vieux Lyon, the old town. Stroll down Rue du Boeuf or Rue St. Jean starting from St. Paul church and explore some "traboules" on the way (see tips). When arrived at St. Jean church, take the "funiculaire" (cable car/metro) to Fourvière. Visit the church and/or enjoy the panoramic view, then walk over to the Roman amphitheatre at Minimes. Walk down the hill back to St. Jean or take the metro to get back into town.
- Eat at a "bouchon" (see tips) or a fine French restaurant.

... if you have a little more time:

- Visit a museum! Personal highlights: Institut Lumière, Centre d'Histoire de la Résistance et de la Déportation, Musée des Beaux-Arts, Musée d'Art Contemporain, Musée gallo-romain de Lyon-Fourvière, Musée des Tissus et des Arts Décoratifs, Maison des Canuts.

... if you have a little more time and it's SUMMER:

- Visit the huge Parc de la Tête d'Or for a picknick, check out the free zoo.
- Go swimming at the Piscine du Rhône swimming pool at the Rhône river.
- Take a boat trip on the Saône/Rhône river.

... if you're taking a walk in the evening:

- Don't miss walking Rue Mercière and Vieux Lyon for the atmosphere. Other sites (Place des Terreaux for example) are beautifully illumined in the evening.

At The North of the Place Bellecour

by hquittner

Just to the north of the Place Bellecour at its west end is the Place des Jacobins which has in its center the Dominican's erected in 1888 in memory of four local artists dressed in the styles of their times. Beyond to the southeast is the large Place Bellecour.
